Obama Kills Unnecessary Spending: Where Are The Conks?

WASHINGTON - The Senate voted Tuesday to halt production of the Air Force's missile-eluding F-22 Raptor fighter jets in a high-stakes, veto-laden showdown over President Barack Obama's efforts to shift defense spending to a next generation of smaller, single-engine F-35 Joint Strike Fighters.
The 58-40 vote reflected an all-out lobbying campaign by the Obama administration, which had to overcome resistance from lawmakers confronted with the losses of defense-related jobs if the F-22 program is terminated.
"The president really needed to win this vote," Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin, D-Mich., said. Levin said it was important not only on the merits but "in terms of changing the way we do business in Washington."
Says he doesn't see the need to waste taxpayer money on this debacle. Where are the cheering Conks??? No compliments???

You, Gates, and Obama...the Secretary of the Air Force and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force... cannot show one valid study that says those planes are not necessary....
You can show a budget decision...
It's a shame that valid requirements (there's a process for validating requirements, but I know, you don't care about details) are being cut simply because of budgets...
Cutting something because you can't afford it is OK....just don't lie to the American people and say there isn't a need.....
BE HONEST....Say we can't afford it...

Proving that the blind squirrel does occasionally get a nut. Kudos to all those who voted correctly and those who drove the vote. But I'd bet that in other votes they wasted all of that F-22 money and more on some other boondoggle. As long as we keep sending it in they'll find something to waste it on.

Exactly!
They didnt do it to save money they have already spent whatever they saved on the F22's and its getting pissed away on something that doesnt protect our way of life.

I saw the headline and thought he'd killed healthcare reform. Now THAT'S unnecessary spending. Call me when he kills something that costs TRILLIONS of dollars.

Now if the money is diverted to community organizing or social programs many of you have a valid point about the cut impacting national security but as of yet I've seen no evidence that that is what is happening.

I can see your military:
The men and women of the (not so) armed forces running around on the ground making plane noises as they try to carry a bomb to drop on a military target only to fall a couple hundred miles short. Men and women shoving their "gun" hands in the face of an enemy and making bang bang sounds while they are shot by real guns.
Our military should have a fighter jet for every pilot, one for every day of the week. They should have to kick their way through piles of bullets and guns to find the exact one they want.
Our
extra machines, planes, guns, missiles, bombs and ammo should be the second largest munitions armed military force in the world.
