Zapped: Neighborhood Stunned After Cops Taser Dog

LAKEWOOD, OH (WOIO) - Neighbors are furious with local police after they used their taser gun on a dog who neighbors say wasn't being vicious.

Two women heard a dog barking Saturday morning around 8:30 a.m. and looked out their apartment window only to see a dog surrounded by several police officers.

The officers tasered the dog "like he was a grizzly bear" says witness Christina MacDonald.

MacDonald also said that "the dog was backing up defensively, as if he was saying stay away from me. He wasn't being aggressive in any way."

Pit Bulls are banned in the City of Lakewood and officers say the dog named Otis was acting vicious towards them.

The owner of the dog, Daniel Kier, claims that Otis is "a Boxer, not a Pit Bull." The animal warden agrees with local authorities and claims the dog looks as though it has Pit Bull in its blood.

As a pit bull owner, I agree whole heartedly with the above post. Great dogs for sure. Mine barks too much though.

I don't own a pit bull, but at some point I want too. One of my buddies, who stood up for me in my wedding, works at an animal shelter in a neighboring town. This town is full of illegals who have pit bulls but can't take care of them so they drop them off. He has told me many times his perception of pit bulls has changes 180 since he started working there. He loves them to death, and wants to adopt one to live on his farm.

Agree. They're not nearly as vicious as a canary songbird.

Mine is a rescue. Good for you. Try to get one young, and raise it up right. They are really easy to train, but you have to make them understand you are in charge first. They respect athority and reward it with blind loyalty. Big Ho tries to treat her like a lap dog, and my dog treats Big Ho like she is my dog's bitch. Just be in charge and that dog will do anything you ever ask of it.

I won't be getting one until the little dog we have is gone, which hopefully isn't for years. She just turned 1 on July 1st, but is only 10.2 lbs and would look like prey to a pit bull. I am afraid even with all the training in the world, normal instincts would just take over with a small dog like that running around

It is not the dog's instincs to eat little dogs. They are capable of it and that is exploited in the training of the fighting dogs. They are territorial and selfish with belongings, like bones or toys. They are not killers until someone makes them that way.

I know all about the territorial thing though, my 10lb dog gets pissed as hell if I try to take her one bone away. She will go psycho until I give it back to her, it's like fucking crack

If Lizzie is selfish about a bone and the new pit bull is selfish about the same bone, I know how that tug of war will end. You were right. You better wait to adopt.

Izzie may only be 10 lbs but she sure as hell doesn't act like it. She acts more like a 50 or 60lb dog. She has the bite of a 50lb dog too. We can't buy her toys in her size range because they last about a day, we have to buy the toys made for dogs 40-70lbs.


She sounds like a horrible dog when I describe her, but she isn't. She is a huge lap dog that loves everybody, she has yet to come across a person she didn't love and want attention from...she just has an attitude because someone in the house I live in spoils the hell out of her
