BELLEVUE, Neb. -- An overweight Bellevue police officer fired in 2007 because of his physical condition has returned to work, saying he expects a hostile work environment from the top down.

Chris Parent came to work Monday for the first time in nearly two years after overcoming numerous legal hurdles. The past two years have been tough on him.

"No income. Your name dragged through the dirt. How would it be for you?" Parent said.

But he returns to what may be an even tougher battle: regaining the police department's trust and support even after fighting the department since his firing.

"Trust me. The chief won't let it go," Parent said.

The Bellevue police chief fired Parent in August 2007 because of Parent's performance at a state-mandated gun test. Video provided by the department showed Parent passing a shooting test, but failing when asked to kneel down, shoot and then stand back up.
