A Boston, Massachusetts, police officer who sent a mass e-mail in which he referred to Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as "banana-eating" and a "bumbling jungle monkey" has been placed on administrative leave and faces losing his job.

Incredible, even the artistic and resourceful CS. community could not make this stuff up.

This guy is a closed minded idiot who stepped over several lines in his writings...

But there is a benefit to this...another idiot is off the force...

I think the professor was handled in a professional manner, and the Cambridge police SGT did an outstanding job...totally opposite of what this Boston officer did...

Regardless of what you think, its BS that a guy loses his job over voicing his right to free speech in an email.

Him posting that didnt affect his job performance so why the axe?

Oh thats right we dont want to hurt anyones feelings with things as brutal and sadistic as "words". A gun doesnt hold a candle to "words". "Words" cut deeper than any knife.  :jack: :jack: :jack:

God this planet is in dire need of me.....................I knew it all along.

I'll say this again for the slow ones in the bunch:
a person placed in charge of Keeping the peace and serving and protecting cannot likely do his job of serving and protecting if he feels that an entire group of society are non-human or beneath human standards...

the concept of fair treatment placed in the hands of individuals who don't consider groups of people equal is then impossible... can you understand that..?

Does it seem odd to anyone else that with all the media attention and so forth over this that a guy even with racist feelings would send out a mass email like this?

Sounds nice, but do you think policemen can really stay unjaded? You would see so much of the same crap day in, day out, I imagine it would be hard not to form opinions based on those experiences.

For example, I have realized that guys in jacked up trucks pulling motorcycles, ATV's and watercraft all pretty much drive like shit and place their importance above most everyone else on the road - at least here in Washington.

I'm just saying it would be nice to have cops who view everyone the same, I just think it is impossible when you consider the daily crap sandwich of people they have to deal with everyday.

Big difference there, Dana.

In your example, it is BEHAVIOR, not any characteristic that would lead to profiling. The azzholes could be white, hispanic, black, female, male, etc.

In Cleets example, it is a characteristic (i.e. skin color) that is prejudcing the officer.

There is a very small % of people that see skin color anymore in the USA the minoritys like to cling to the single digits to keep their "power" and special treatment.

A very high % of cops dont see color they see crime and they respond to it.

I think most cops are douchebags and they treat everyone equally, which is like they are getting back at society for picking on them in high school........regardless of color.

I got picked on in high school, my early years. I get them hack by having all the hottest girls on Earth worship at my feet, day after day, after day, forever after.
