"Death Panels"

Post by JMU DJ »

I love this woman
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin says the health care overhaul bill would set up a "death panel." Federal bureaucrats would play God, ruling on whether ailing seniors are worth enough to society to deserve life-sustaining medical care. Palin and other critics are wrong.

Nothing in the legislation would carry out such a bleak vision. The provision that has caused the uproar would instead authorize Medicare to pay doctors for counseling patients about end-of-life care, if the patient wishes. Here are some questions and answers on the controversy:

Obama pushes the bill back one step back and then Palin comes along pushes it forward ten. Even the GOP is wondering WTF she is doing. Sen Johnny Isakson (R-GA) had this to say when asked where he thought Palin got the idea from:
I have no idea. I understand -- and you have to check this out -- I just had a phone call where someone said Sarah Palin's web site had talked about the House bill having death panels on it where people would be euthanized. How someone could take an end of life directive or a living will as that is nuts.

...besides, private insurance companies already act as their own "death panel" every now and then.

Agree. Can't understand this "outrage" with the notion of so-called "death panels"...the private sector has done that everytime it refuses to pay for certain treatments.....so basically the government plan will be the same (if this was true) as the private sectors without the ability to deny pre-existing conditions? Oh the humanity....

I think it's the "End of Life Counseling" requirement that has gotten blown out of proportion. :?

It's required to be funded if requested, not required to be attended.....and it was an amendment added by a Republican from Georgia....who then voted against the bill....
