I have a theory about folks who lean to the left on social and economic issues, and whether or not they also come down on the libertarian side of the scale like UNH did. I find it to be a contradiction, because in order to enforce social engineering that comes with making everybody equal, government has to be invasive. I wonder sometimes if many liberals (like my brother) are not really libertarians at heart (because relatively speaking, all Americans are conservative and libertarian when compared to the rest of the world).

I have a few family members who are hardcore liberals but when you get into a conversation with them about the scope of governmental controls in our daily lives they turn into a bunch of little Daniel Boones. The best part of that is then inserting into the argument a challenege to reconcile their socially liberal beliefs with their libertarian beliefs. They always end up arguing with each other while I watch and laugh.

Yep...my sister-in-law, whom I love dearly...is a hard core liberal...or at least she professess to be one...

But she wants government regulation of her profession (nursing) severly reduced and often talks about the need to reduce the excessive taxation (in Massachusetts no less)...

None of this actually matters... it's too late
The only difference fiscally between a republican and a Democrat in office is the language they use - other than that they both spend way too much - they both act like socialists with our money

Sure they have outward agenda differences but once they're in office it's all basically the same

What we need is the the house to be Liberal the senate to be Conservative and the president to be a moderate... in short = TOTAL GRID LOCK

That's the only way this Federal Government (no matter who the president is) actually works best - other wise we've got crazy spending
