Charles Darwin film 'too controversial for religious America'

A British film about Charles Darwin has failed to find a US distributor because his theory of evolution is too controversial for American audiences, according to its producer.

Can you imagine if this would have happened with Passion of the Christ? This really has become a country of censorship run by organized religion.

With all the other issues films tackle, I can't believe one has a problem due to evolution. Maybe the film sucks. :?

What's the friggin problem? When did evolution become controversial? Is this another "the Earth is only 6,000 years old" thing?

I doubt it is a as sacrilegious as films like "religulous" or "The DaVinci Code". The producer is just playing the victim card because his film wasn't good enough to get a distributor.

This is a country that doesn't give a sh^t about the sorry state of math, physics, and technology education in America but goes ape-sh^t when anyone tries to put stickers in biology textbooks that say "evolution is a theory not a fact". Not buying that BS for a second.

Better get more bandwidth, Chris

Good point, and free publicity that may draw enough interest to get the film picked up.

Whatever the reason is it isn't because we are afraid of Darwinism in this country.

Probably cuz no one gives a shit about science in this country.... add that to a love story and you probably have a box office zero. Come on, don't you want to see movie with absolutely no tangible plot that involves robots blowing up buildings and each other while the human race struggles to stop a global Apocalypse... I know I do.

Pretty well renown actors in that movie... can't recall anything bad I've ever seen them in. Especially Jennifer Connelly... hummina hummina Image

sorry jeffy - but I actually agree with pwns on this one - you can get almost ANYTHING distributed in this country - Religiulus was widely distributed and was much more in your face - the studios and distributors took a pass because the film sucks eggs...

and yes, this guy is playing the victim to try and secure distribution... lame.

The Vatican is against evolution all of a sudden?

I thought it was the Protestants, particularly in the South and speak on TV.

I'm a Protestant and I'm not against evolution. Well, come to think of it, I am against premature evolution.

One of the worst movies I ever saw was called Dogma. Anyone remember it? Affleck and Damon were in it. The one where Alanis Morrissette comes in at the end as "God" after a battle of good against evil. It sucked. Made no sense.

I liked it too.
