Wedge- I'll be the first to come down on anyone for having racial motivations for dissent. That being said, it is the left that has brought this out. From Maureen Dowd saying that there was an unspoken "boy" in his outburst, to Jimmy Carter saying that opposition to President Obama is racially motivated. All of these voices are from the left.
The thing is, the left cannot have it both ways. Opposition to President Bush was not always a lack of patriotism, and opposition to President Obama is not always racism. The strategy of throwing race into an argument about health care is absolutely NO DIFFERENT from calling someone a traitor for not supporting the war in Iraq; it is designed to end debate and change the subject. The proponents of Obamacare are losing their bid for socialized medicine, so they march out the white hoods and the crosses to denigrate the voices of the opposition.
Ironically enough, it is the left that still fosters the plantation mentality. Minorities are told that only the Democratic Party has their best interests at heart, that only government can provide you with the things you need, and that the only way government can do that is if it is run by the left. When one of the chilluns steps off the plantation, they are condescended to and admonished to get back in line with the groupthink. Take a look at Barbara Boxer's disgusting exchange with Harry Alford (the chair of the black chamber of commerce) if you want to good example of this.
The Democratic Party has forgotten something very important here. This country is center-right. If it was not center-right, then all those weird-shaped congressional districts would not be weird-shaped. We have bent over backwards in this country to accomodate minorities in the last 40 years, and to now be told that disagreeing with a black president is racist is cauing the backlash that is going to cause the Dems to lose the single greatest progressive opportunity they have had since FDR.

Totally agree CID, and the funny thing is that the exact same things that Obama is being taken to task over are the things that Carter was taken to task for. That right there shows how disingenuous the claim of racism is. It wasn't racism when Carter or Clinton were trying to do these things but it is suddenly racism when people have the same mindset they had about taxes and spending. Absolutely ridiculous the lack of thinking that goes on with politicians. I guess they just want an easy answer to the problems.
