Tea Party Protesters Protest D.C. Metro Service

Protesters who attended Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Washington found a new reason to be upset: Apparently they are unhappy with the level of service provided by the subway system.

Rep. Kevin Brady asked for an explanation of why the government-run subway system didn’t, in his view, adequately prepare for this past weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.

Seriously.

The Texas Republican on Wednesday released a letter he sent to Washington’s Metro system complaining that the taxpayer-funded subway system was unable to properly transport protesters to the rally to protest government spending and expansion.

“These individuals came all the way from Southeast Texas to protest the excessive spending and growing government intrusion by the 111th Congress and the new Obama administration,” Brady wrote. “These participants, whose tax dollars were used to create and maintain this public transit system, were frustrated and disappointed that our nation’s capital did not make a great effort to simply provide a basic level of transit for them.”

A spokesman for Brady says that “there weren’t enough cars and there weren’t enough trains.” Brady tweeted as much from the Saturday march. “METRO did not prepare for Tea Party March! More stories. People couldn’t get on, missed start of march. I will demand answers from Metro,” he wrote on Twitter.

Brady says in his letter to Metro that overcrowding forced an 80-year-old woman and elderly veterans in wheelchairs to pay for cabs. He concludes that it “appears that Metro added no additional capacity to its regular weekend schedule.”

Not suprised that the above three gaywads would speak ill of people exercising their 1st Amend rights.

Jon, gay people are among the first to be discriminated against and ultimately killed in totalitarian regimes, whether they be Shia muslim, Sunni muslim, Nazi or Communist.

Like it or not, many of those Tea Party activists are among the very first to volunteer their lives to protect your rights and your life. Most of your political cronies have not the physical or moral courage to do so.

The Bible-thumping Christians among the Tea Party crowd merely call the gay lifestyle a sin, they do not advocate killing gay people or taking away their right to be gay. I would like to think that you agree with me that there is a big difference.

Peace and love, brotha!

P.S. I am not talking about that tiny group of nutballs in Kansas who disrupt military funerals. They do not represent the millions of weekly worshippers who believe the Bible.

The DC Metro sucks all the time. Not just on protest weekends.

I would gladly trade the Chicago L system for the DC Metro system. The Metro is cleaner, faster, and more comfortable.

And do people realize how hypocritical they sound when they complain about a government service's inability to adequately get them to a protest about government services?

I take it you haven't been on the metro during rush hour.... :coffee: Nothing fast and ESPECIALLY nothing comfortable about it.

BTW, ANOTHER person committed suicide by jumping in front a metro train yesterday. That's 7 suicide attempts since June...NOT including the two trains that collided. :shake:

The metro is a disaster

I have been on the metro during rush hour and while it wasn't the greatest it still beat the L by a long shot. Think of the metro as a Lexus and the L as a Chevette. They're both overcrowded during rush hour but one still has a much better ride.

I will NEVER think of the metro is a Lexus!! Unless it's been jacked up on cinder blocks with the stereo and tires missing.

So, the Metro should have incurred more expense to accomodate an organized protest for people to exercise their 1st Amendment rights? Sorry, don't see "guaranteed convenient government-subsidized transportation" as a condition of the 1st Amendment anywhere in the Constitution.....must be right below the line that guarantees government-subsidized health-care....

Wanna know the best train system I've ever been on?? Porto and Lisbon, Portugal. Funny, what was a third-world country not too long ago has it figured out, yet the most powerful city in the greatest country on earth can't figure it out... :shake:

Point of thread:
Tea Party protesters - Protesting big Government involvement - Then complaining that the government transportation services provided need more big Government involvement...

Gay Shia Muslim rights protection.. seriously native..?

I've used the Metro as a tourist and thought it was great. I said so on another board, but 89 Hen told me I was wrong and that the Metro sucked outside of the tourist areas. Whatever.

just another opportunity for phony-baloney captain america wannabe to imply that the entirety of "patriotic america" consists of staight, white, Christians who are conservative republicans because it's his favorite canard (uses it in almost every thread in poli wing).

Nah...you hit the nail on the head, TTBF...the Metro has issues...what system doesn't...but it's a clean, efficient system...

Yea, at the peak of rush hour it should be avoided...

And the suicides...how is it a Metro issue that idiots have decided to jump in front of moving trains...

Now, regarding the idiot from Texas...    :shake: :shake:

I think you DC guys need to try the L in chicago or the NYC Subway... b/c compared to that DC is a dream... clean, hobo-free (even in dodgy areas... i took the train to greenbelt more than once) and for the most part on-time...

or any american city without rail transit... (like the Twin Towns) yuck.

Gotta agree with Mr. thekidd. I was impressed with how the metro worked when I was there recently. It certainly beat the hell out of the nightmare ya'll call a road system. ;)
