What's The Rush On Health Care???

With only 20% of Americans saying Health Care reform is the most pressing issue facing this country, why are the Democrats speeding on a massive health care reform package that most lawmakers haven't read???
A new Public Strategies Inc./POLITICO poll indicates COngress is not paying attention to what the American people feel is the most pressing crisis facing us...
As the nation struggles to climb out of a recession, 45 percent rated the economy as the most important issue in deciding their vote if the congressional election were held today, followed by 21 percent who said government spending, 20 percent who chose health care reform and 9 percent who said the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Just 4 percent ranked climate change as the top issue.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1009/28491.html
To show just how far out of touch the Obama Administration is with the American People, the poll goes on to show that fixing the economy, even if it impacts the environment, is more important...
Even as the Obama administration is pushing for climate protection legislation, 62 percent of those polled agreed that “economic growth should be given priority, even if the environment suffers to some extent.”
As a former Democratic candidate-turned-President once said "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID"...

As a former Democratic candidate-turned-President once said "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID"... :coffee
And that's the shame of it....the environmentalists, in their zealous push to address the man-made impacts of global warming using questionable data (thanks Al) will now enable the future gutting of more meaningful environmental regulations in the name of "saving jobs" (see mountain-top removal). Environmentalists have to stop attacking issues like coal power through ambiguous "greenhouse gases" & instead show the tangible proof of coal power through their means of extraction...there is no such thing as "clean coal" when you have a decapitated mountain & arsenic-laced water source...

Isn't the proposed new health care system just a goverment-run version of Darwinism, survival of the fittest? How could any of us be against that?

Then we have to ban cars...
43,200 people died in car crashes last year
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/200 ... ents_x.htm
And we better stop all construction...
Every day, 7,300 construction workers go home injured or ill — and three don't go home at all.

And the occasional 'Darwin Award' threads??
Seriously, how could we be against this?

Let's not forget those menaces-to-society, the......SOFT DRINK MACHINES!!!
An article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (11 November 1988, p. 2697) documents 15 cases in which men trying to get a can out of the machine were crushed. Three died, the other 12 required hospitalization for injuries such as fractures of the skull, toe, ankle, tibia, femur, and pelvis; intracerebral bleeding; knee contusion; and one punctured bladder.

Wouldn't it be cheaper (and more effective) to just ban cigarettes & cigars? Leading causes of death:
•Heart disease: 631,636
•Cancer: 559,888
•Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 137,119
•Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 124,583
ALL increased 5-10 fold by smoking.

It's not about health care. It's about establishing permanent control over the population through health care legislation. And their veto proof majority to accomplish same will be gone after the 2010 election. Hence for them "the rush" is very important.

I can't wait either...
Total gridlock has proven to be a more effective Federal Government than free-wheelin' spend-a-thons that we've had for the past 9 years
Not one president (Republican or Democrat) has left office with a smaller Government that he was inaugurated with... so Gridlock becomes the answer

Agreed. That's the way the founding fathers designed it.

A smaller, more libertarian federal government would be an even better version of gridlock than the gargantuan statist version we have today.
Some really bright folks dreamed such a thing up more than 200 years ago...

How would the health care legislation establish permanent control over the population..... ?
The "rush" is partly due to the fact that Obama wants a major iniative to tout for his first year in office and at the State of the Union in January. Republicans will try to delay any progress until after January if they can.

Hopefully the Repubs can successfully delay "progress" until at least January 2012.
