I grew up with magic underwear-wearing Mormon who worshiped Notre Dame. He eventually graduated from Notre Dame and drives to every home game even though he lives about 250 miles from South Bend. He isn't Irish either.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

- Thomas Jefferson, in letter to William S. Smith, 1787

I'll add to that:

So PSU shouldn't even show up for the game then?
Of course they should show up. Hearing the Michigan fight song, even played by just the smaller contingent of the band that travels, is one of the staples of college football. No reason to miss that. :thumb:

Penn State could still play a role in determining the Big 10 and possibly (though not likely) national champions. If they win at MSU, the winner of Michigan/Ohio State would play Iowa in the conference championship game. If MSU wins, it's all moot of course.

Penn State is 5-2 with their only losses to Temple and OSU.

Not bad.
Their 6 wins (they are 6-2) are Buffalo, Rutgers, SDSU, Army, Indiana, and Maryland, and they had to squeak out the wins against Army and Maryland.

Illinois this weekend might be their last win - Illini aren't any good and the game is in Happy Valley. But after that, they have to play legit teams - Northwestern on the road, Michigan at home, and end with Michigan St on the road. I see 7-5 and a bowl game just after Christmas. Surely not horrible, but nothing to write home about either.
Thank goodness this thread was bumped. And yes, that Gannon poster really seems to have known his stuff! :thumb:

I couldn't wait to bump this thread.

Sadly I need to cheer for PSU this week...all because the one time in my life I want OSU to win, they fucking lose.

Yup, Penn St is decidedly average. Either the worst of the top half of the Big 10 or the best of the bottom half. Either way, still just average.

PSU should have beaten NW, stayed close with MU until late, and then got murdered by MSU. They don't have a bad loss, so I hope they get a quality opponent in the bowl game. But I think they are above average in terms of D1 teams. Also, the offensive coordinator needs to go as he was pathetic all season long. I hope Hackenberg stays for his last year as a top 10 recruiting class should make him look better next year. :thumb:
