If JMU wins they would be 1st place in SBC East, but ineligible to go to the SBC title game due to the BS technicality. Now the SBC and can prematurely label CCU SBC East champs,
and CCU can prematurely call themselves that,
but I bet if JMU wins, the SBC "explanation" isn't going to age well, because "first place" and "champions" is the same thing.
I didn't realize the ban extended down to conference play. That's too bad. So I guess the only game that matters is App vs GSU, which was pretty much the case anyway.

Highest ranked G5 team will go to the Cotton Bowl as part of the NY6 deal, so Coastal should be all in on that. Would need to:
-beat JMU
-beat (likely Troy) in the SBC title game (don’t know if McCall would be back).
-hope the winner of #19 Tulane @ #21 Cincinnatti (the 2 G5 teams ranked ahead of #23 Coastal in the CFP rankings) lost the following week in the AAC title game.
FWIW Mcall is out for CCU for apparently 3 weeks going back to a couple weeks ago. They beat S Miss 2 weeks ago without him, and their game @ UVA this past Sat was cancelled due to the shooting. Right now JMU is -13.5. Heck, if I wasn’t a JMU fan I’d bet on Coastal covering that..Saw their backup play vs S Miss. Unlike JMU, they have a decent backup QB.

You could make the argument Marshall is. I mean, kudos on the strong start but JMU did get a break on the cross-division schedule as the only team in the east to play to 2 of the bottom 3 from the West.
With that said, if I were in charge there'd be no dumb FBS transition rule and JMU would be headed to the CCH and to a bowl.
