Other SLC stuff

Post by CatMom »

Texas State Women's Golf - down 15, came storming back on the final day to take the SLC championship by 2 strokes over SHSU. It was good to not be on the wrong side of a collapse for a change.

Congrats Lady Bobcats

LOL Catmom. PSU women's golf did the same thing, coming through on the last day of the Big Sky tournament to win by two strokes. They'll announce tomorrow where the NCAA Regional will be - probably somewhere down in California.

All we've got left now for the year is softball and outdoor track and field. The PSU softball team is now in first place in the mountain division of the PCSC. We've got two more teams to play, four games each. We should take all four from Weber State; we might split with Seattle U.. In either case we should win. Then play-offs with the winner of the coastal division for rights to go to the NCAAs. Those California schools are pretty good - we'll be lucky to take that one. As for track, we'll win one or two of the sprints, maybe the decathlon, but not much else. We don't put much money into track, though they've been improving. UO and OSU are heavily into national track and recruit just about anyone that's any good in Oregon, leaving us with the picking.

First round of the women's NCAA Golf Regional at Stanford Golf Course: PSU's in a three way tie for 16th. Texas State is down around 20th I think. PSU is 14 strokes behind the leader - not much of a chance to get in the top eight, but you never know. Golf is barely predictable when only a few strokes separate the leaders. Not surprising that the leaders are Pac-10 and big Eastern schools; that's why they call us Mid-Majors.

I don't really like golf and I don't follow it but I can probably get away with saying TXST is not on "par" with the top of the regionals field. Really young team, though, and I bet they have a repeat performance.

LOL PSU's not exactly on par with them either - the leaders today were Arizona, UCLA, California and a couple others. And you've got UT-A and a few more. Still, a Mid Major can squeeze into the middle at times.

NCAA western regional golf is done. PSU came in 20, Texas State 22. The top teams were UCLA and Arizona, with Texas and Texas A & M in the top ten.
