Well Rutgers will definitely say yes.
How about Nebraska and Missouri?
Notre Dame should, but I doubt they will.

All but ND will say yes. I think ND will say no. If they say yes. Syracuse or Pitt will also get an invite. I hope 16 doesn't happen. If it does SEC will likely go to 16 and the BE will be gone. I hope the B12 expands west and that the Pac 10 goes to 12. Then Finally Fresno St. should get in the MWC. Of course BYU, Utah and maybe 2 others(New Mexico, Colorado St.) would be gone.

Re: Big 10 invites...Rutgers,Nebraska,Missouri,Notre Dame...
Will it be gone or will it continue to add teams after raids as it has done twice before? It's still a powerhouse basketball conference, even without Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt or ND.Fresno St. Alum wrote:BE will be gone.

If the B10 goes to 16 (I dont think it will) ND,Rutgers,Syracuse would be gone. They could add UCF,ECU, Memphis. But if that happened SEC commish said he would do the same. If he took ACC schools then the ACC would take. UConn, Pitt, WVU, USF. Then BE football is done. It would be a Bball conf. like the A10 and add Xavier, St.Louis, UMass or Dayton.93henfan wrote:Will it be gone or will it continue to add teams after raids as it has done twice before? There is also some worry that the B12 expands east to replace 2/3 schools. Louisville & Cincinnati would be on the list.

I'd also like to point out right now that the ESPN bottom line is NOT running the Breaking News anymore. Did we just get hustled? Or maybe the B10 doesn't want to make anything official yet even if it is.

I think the Big East sponsoring football would be done.93henfan wrote:Will it be gone or will it continue to add teams after raids as it has done twice before? It's still a powerhouse basketball conference, even without Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt or ND.Fresno St. Alum wrote:BE will be gone.
It just depends on the number of schools that leave. 3 seems to be the magic number: if 3 BE schools leave (say Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt) then the Big East is likely done for football at 5 members.
If it's 2 schools leaving (Rutgers and Pitt), then UCF and Memphis might fill the void. Syracuse followd by Uconn are the glue between football and no-basketball...
...And that said, if Syracuse and Uconn were left out of the Big Ten, you can be sure that the ACC would consider expanding to 14 with those two. Same might be true if it were Pitt and Uconn. Hell, it's not THAT much of a stretch to think that if only 1 was left from Cuse, Pitt, Uconn, that they'd invite that school and WVU.
Depending on who leaves the Big East (Cuse, Uconn) that will decide the path. It would not be a shock to see the 5 remaining teams (if it played out that way) join with some CUSA teams to form something new...assuming they'd get a bCS spot.
Pitt, Temple, WVU, Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, ECU, USF, USF
But it's all moot until something is official with the Big Ten...which it's not by a long shot.

ESPN was talking about expansion again right now, so there is fire behind this story. It's just not official yet.
Quinn, If they take 5 Only 2 BE football schools would be gone Rutgers and Cuse or Pitt. Can it survive 2? I think so because they could get 3 Fb schools to come in since ND would be gone. That said, I think Rutgers is gone and UCF replaces them.
You think the ACC and/or SEC feels the need to match a B10/14? If yes that will kill BE football

Official statement that was released and read on the 5PM Central time SportsCenterdbackjon wrote:Source?clenz wrote:Nebraska is declining the invite FWIW
I would also add, due to some likely confusion and due to poor wording on my part, that should have been typed/read as:
Nebraska is declining that they have received and invitation to the Big 10 conference.

They are denying that they have been offered - not that they have been offered and declined..
Nebraska officials shot down talk Monday that the Big Ten Conference has offered an initial invitation to join that league.
“The University of Nebraska has not been offered any opportunity to move from the Big 12,'' said Meg Lauerman, a spokesperson with Chancellor Harvey Perlman's office.

This will all play out, probably just like how they said. It's a stall tactic since the official President meeting isn't til June.
Nebraska, Rutgers, Missouri won't say no. ND probably will. Plus don't get caught up in words by Nebraska's leaders. How many million times do we hear coaches say I'm happy where I'm at and then leave the next week. They are waiting for the paperwork and when it's signed they'll say umm yeah we're leaving for the B10

Yup - Missouri and Nebraska have tens of millions of reasons to leave the Big 12...Fresno St. Alum wrote:This will all play out, probably just like how they said. It's a stall tactic since the official President meeting isn't til June.

Rutgers has even more! All that plus the fear that their conference won't have enough football members if there's enough expansion. If Rutgers said no, Pitt or Cuse would say yeah, thus fucking themselves over. Rutgers is not dumb.dbackjon wrote:Yup - Missouri and Nebraska have tens of millions of reasons to leave the Big 12...Fresno St. Alum wrote:This will all play out, probably just like how they said. I know Notre Dame thinks they're different & can somehow survive alone, but if all the BCS leagues expand & purge the BE & B12 out, Notre Dame is left on the outside (a non-factor) in the new world order.

My thought is that ND will always have a all sports home in the BE even if the 8 fb schools are gone. The BE Bball would just add Xavier, St.Louis and maybe Dayton, UMass or Temple. So that along with being Indy in football and finishing in the top 10 will get them a BCS bid.bluehenbillk wrote:I know Notre Dame thinks they're different & can somehow survive alone, but if all the BCS leagues expand & purge the BE & B12 out, Notre Dame is left on the outside (a non-factor) in the new world order.

Rutgers will accept the invitation. Good move for them. I suspect ND will turn them down ($$$s) and the Big Ten goes with 14 members.

It isn't money that would keep ND indy - they would make more money in the Big 10
Re: Big 10 invites...Rutgers,Nebraska,Missouri,Notre Dame...
It is their ego. That entire fanbase/alumni group/university has a sense of worth that is so over inflated nothing can help them anymore except for every conference to shut them out and for the BCS to find a way to shut them out.dbackjon wrote:Seahawks wrote:Rutgers will accept the invitation.
