Before you start whitewashing all private prep schools for illegal or unethical recruiting, one counter situation should be examined: Stockton-St. Mary's (a Catholic HS) was seriously screwed by illegal recruiting done out of Stockton-Franklin (a public school), which had a construction guru for a head coach. They took out-of-boundaries players who were legitimately attending St. Mary's. The coach was caught and busted by the Sac-Joaquin Section of the CIF. Later, he was busted by the section for a HUGE recruiting scandal featuring players from Western Pacific islands. As a result of the whole situation, not only he but the district athletic director (only time I've ever heard of such a position) were forced out, and the coach has since died. The whole situation was embarrassing to me because he was the defensive coordinator on my Pop Warner team before all this happened. (Fortunately, I was strictly offense.)

So it's not always private schools screwing public schools. Sometimes it goes the other way....
