College World Series

Post by bodoyle »

I am leaving tomorrow morning to get to my hotel, watch a practice or two and go to Fan Fest.

Has anyone gone before? Will anyone be going this year? If so, PM me. Maybe we can meet up.

Would love to go sometime. Keep us updated on it. I was hoping CCU would be there, but cheer for Arizona State!

*grumble grumble* I wish CCU was there too.

TCU is the team I will be cheering for. No updates available while I am there. Don't have a laptop or web service on my cell phone. But I will update when I get home on Monday

TCU is a good pick as well.

Have fun, say hi to Warren Buffett, and have some steaks!

My law partner went out to Omaha for the CWS about 5 years ago with her husband and her baseball-crazy son, and they had a great time. I got a t-shirt out of the deal! :)

I don't want a tshirt since CCU isn't there, but I will get a program from the last year at Rosenblatt.

Somehow I gotta get grass or something from there too.

I am in utter shock that the best record in history wasn't good enough to get in. Were there some crazy calls in the SuperRegionals?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

My Review of Rosenblatt:

Thought I would post some info.

MOST FANS: TCU, South Carolina in 2nd place
LEAST FANS: Florida State with Oklahoma and Clemson not far behind
HOTTEST FANS: TCU HANDS DOWN!! All smoking hot, and all tall.
UGLIEST FANS: That goes to the Omaha women. Very very nice, but not too good looking.
NICEST FANS: All of them
MEANEST FANS: None
STUPIDEST FANS: The people that I saw who would put either an entire garbage bag over them (without poking holes in it) or the people who took newspaper bags and did the same thing.

TICKETS: I just got back home and apparently they changed their ticketing system (according to two people who have been going for 23 and 41 years). To upgrade your GA tickets, you have to get in line around 6am (that's when I got there), get a wristband, then get let in when the stadium opens (8am). Then you lineup for the box office to open up (10am) and get a ticket around 11am (that's when I got mine and I was about 150th in line). Apparently you used to be able to just get in the line for Reserved ticket purchases/upgrades and not need a wristband or line up outside Rosenblatt. Also, getting in with a GA ticket is next to impossible. I waited for 4 hours on Saturday and couldn't get in so I went to the zoo. **The number on your wristband is meaningless. One security officer told people at night they could go home and come back and the number on their wristband would get them a spot in line. NOT TRUE. I was number 834 and was next to people who had numbers in the 500's.

PARKING: If you want to save $5 and don't mind a little walk, you can park for $5 on 8th St. and Bancroft. There is a corner house there, turn left and they own the huge lot next to it. They are a very nice Hispanic family and even gave me a free poncho on Sunday (it was worthless b/c I was going back to eat after getting my upgraded ticket and was already out in the pouring rain for 6 hours, but a nice thought).

13th STREET: One word describes that street....CARNIVAL! It is insane. Tents with people selling merchandise, ATM's on the sidewalks etc.

FOOD: The food in the stadium is reasonably priced - more expensive than the zoo though. They put some kind of cheese on the Omaha Steak cheeseburger, I don't know what it is, but it isn't that bad and I'm a picky eater. The nachos they have are humongous (supreme with ) and they have every size of pop available. I didn't see a lot of restaurants outside of fast food, but I did not go into downtown Omaha either. They offer this big ass thing of shredded fries or whatever you call it. It's got to be 12" long and 6" wide box chuck full.

PEOPLE/PLAYERS/FANS: Unbelievably nice. Like I mentioned earlier, the Hispanic family gave me a free poncho in the rain. The players were very nice as well. I had players from a few teams mention that they thought CCU was a good team, and wished us luck in the future etc. LSU fans are some of the nicest people I have ever met. When I was at the Oklahoma game (during the 4 hour rain delay) I met an LSU fan who had semi-raised the CCU strength and conditioning coach, Brian Gabriel. Never met the man before, but he saw my CCU shirt, and could not have been nicer. Said how he wished CCU had made it, loved what Gilly was doing with the team etc. I met a man named Bill who was a Gamecock fan and he was incredibly nice. Complimentary about Coastal, said he followed them all year and very polite. While waiting in line at 6am I met a couple from Rock Falls, IL who are friends with the ASU pitcher from there and they could not have been nicer - even let me stand under their umbrella - and the wife was hottttt lol. The residents of Omaha could not have been nicer. They all offer to help you with directions on how to get back to I-80 or where ever you are trying to get to, hell they offer you lemonade on hot days lol.

LSU FANS: They are insane...in a good way. As I mentioned earlier, they were some of the nicest people. I heard they buy houses in the area for parking, and a few of them buy memberships at the Zoo so they have parking.

GAME: I was able to get great seats (Box 27 4th row aisle seat) right behind the Oklahoma dugout close to home plate. Jackie Bradley Jr is a lot bigger than I thought he was, and he obliterated that homerun. Their starting pitcher doesn't throw as hard as I thought he did (maybe the radar was wrong though). The Oklahoma 3b is one hell of a player and is going to be great.

ATMOSPHERE: Those bleacher people are insane. Each side screams at the other side. RIGHT FIELD SUCKS! LEFT FIELD SUCKS! There must be 100 beachballs that they bring into the game. Every time security got one, another 2 showed up. One of the funniest things I saw was when a beachball would get on the field (during the rain delays) one of the grounds crew would run out and get it. Most of them would just deflate it (get booed) and bring it to the dugout. A few of them would get the ball and make both sides of the bleachers scream, and whoever was louder got it. In between innings a ball went over and the SC right fielder raced the grounds crew person for the ball and threw it back into the stands and the place went nuts lol. The ball girl has to have some thick skin. She got booed when a foul ball was stuck in the netting haha.

ZOO: $11.50 to get in (not bad). The food there is very reasonable if you go to the Giraffe area ($6.50 for a cheeseburger, fries and a drink). They have a cool place called The Lied Jungle. There is also a very cool butterfly and insect house you can go in (it's not as lame as it sounds).

OVERALL: I wish I had known about the ticket stuff beforehand. I would just have spent the extra money on a reserved seat and not worried about 6 hour long lines. Overall, it was a great experience. I am sad that it will be moving to downtown Omaha. I think it will lose its small-town atmosphere.

If I can think of other things I will post more. If you guys have any questions, ask away and I'll try to help.

Forgot to add: I saw an interesting gas station called the "KUM AND GO" just sayin...

South Carolina is the 2010 National Champions in Division I Baseball. Season's over (sigh for Fullerton, who fell short to UCLA in the Supers)!
All the Ivy League needs to become relevant again is to diversify its OOC schedule.

Congrats to the other USC. I think that makes for NCs for the state of South Carolina in all sports. Not many when you think of it. But USC has 1, Clemson has 1 and Furman has 2 :D
