Normally, I don't follow baseball. However, USC is a favorite team of mine and thier baseball team has been good lately. They are in the CWS and are a favorite. LET'S GO GAMECOCKS!
Vanderbilt defeats North Carolina 5-1, North Carolina eliminated. Vandy advances to play Florida. Vandy will need to defeat Florida twice to advance to the championship series.
If you want to count Virginia as part of the southeast I'm willing to bet thats how most people feel about the CWS this year. 3 of the final 5 teams are from the SEC and then Virginia and Cal.

The SEC DOMINATES! The SEC is a great football and baseball conference.
I believe Virginia defeated Cal 8-1 yesterday which is no surprise. Cal is now eliminated and now we're down to our final four...
Florida vs. Vanderbilt (Vandy has to win 2 to advance to championship series)
South Carolina vs. Virginia (Virginia has to win 2 to advance to championship series)
I'm kind of glad Cal is out - I was getting really tired of the "they were killed off" storyline being hammered by ESPN...
The catcher for Florida looks like he could be a big deal someday... and something tells me Nate Fontana (the Florida SS) will end up on an MLB roster someday...

If they could they should just move the Championship series to a city like Atlanta where the SEC has their Football Championship.
Cal was a great storyline but I also was getting tired of hearing about it.
Fontana made a hell of a diving grab with 1 out to save it for the Gators
I can't tell if his defense is overrated - or if it's just that he gets to balls normal SS wouldn't get to and makes it close where it otherwise would have just been a hit...

Florida takes the lead on single off the wall ( a great throw by the LF) then scores another on a strikeout and wild pitch... Vandy has used 5 pitchers thusfar in the inning...
in the midst of all this a broken bat... which i've NEVER seen in college... hit a kid in the stands who seemed to be okay

Spent Mon-Wed in Omaha for work this week. Went to the Vandy/UNC game - the new stadium is beautiful and the town really came alive for the whole time I was there.
Stayed in the same hotel as the South Carolina and Cal teams and spent a good amount of time drinking with the Cal parents and some of the SCar folks too. All really good people.
The story may have REALLY been overblown by ESPN... none of the folks I spoke to seemed like they ever worried about the program - either because they thought it would be saved or because they would find a place to play elsewhere.
South Carolina folks coming back from the Virginia beat down the other night were full of confidence (but not arrogance) that they are going to win again this year.
Good time - I'd highly recommend a visit and an addition to any sport fan's "bucket list"

sounds like a good time. Saw South Carolina won 3-2 and defeated Virginia in 13 innings. An SEC Championship series between Florida and South Carolina.
One of my best friends is going to SC for law school and the former ODU Baseball head coach is now the pitching coach at South Carolina, meanwhile I am a huge fan of Florida. Gonna be tough to see either team lose.
Tonight's game was incredible, 2-1 South Carolina in 11 innings. A lot of great pitching and defense by both sides in this one with Carolina scoring the winning run an a 2-error play by the Gators when a runner was stealing second.
