EXCLUSIVE: Bama Sugar Bowl mom ‘sorry’ but would ‘do it again if I had to’

"Yellowhammer has learned that the female Alabama fan who flew through the air to attack an Oklahoma Sooner fan during Thursday’s Sugar Bowl is Michelle Pritchett, a local photographer from Sweet Water, Ala.

Yellowhammer spoke with Mrs. Pritchett on the phone this afternoon in an exclusive interview, becoming the first outlet to get her side of the story.

“Everyone’s making me look like such a bad guy,” Pritchett said. “What I did was probably not the thing to do. But they were taunting us. They began by going after me. But then they crossed the line and started taunting my 16-year-old son.”

At that point, Pritchett says she walked over to the Oklahoma fans to ask them to “leave her son out of it.”

“It started off being friendly, just us going back and forth about the game,” Pritchett recalled. “But what ended up happening had nothing to do with the game. It escalated. When they said something to my son, I told them to shut their mouths. They were telling my son to come down there and ‘do something about it.’ I said, ‘no, that’s not going to happen. This crap needs to stop.’”

As Pritchett’s husband pulled her back the first time she approached the Sooner fans, Pritchett says one of the Sooners called her a “stupid b****” and that’s when she ran across the aisle and dove on top of them.

“The security people had already gotten on to those guys for throwing bottles at people,” Pritchett said. “When they escorted me out, the security guard told them there was no reason to be pressing charges on me because those guys were out of control the whole game. I defended my son. If they had kicked those boys out to begin with, it wouldn’t have happened the way it did.”

Pritchett said she regrets that things escalated the way they did and said she wanted to apologize to “Bama nation.” Her biggest concern seemed to be what Coach Saban’s reaction would be when reporters question him about it.

“I’m embarrassed. I love The Tide and I apologize to all the players and to Coach Saban and to the entire fan base. I’m sorry. Coach Saban’s going to say ‘those crazy fans don’t know how to act.’ And I wasn’t intoxicated either. I want people to know that. I’d had a couple of drinks, but I was not intoxicated.”

But Pritchett says she’d do it all again if she had to.

“I hate to say it, but I’d do it again if I had to. I’m not going to let anyone go after my son.”

Dude's side of the story.

Troll of the year.
It was toward the end of the third quarter. My friends and I were sitting in the aisle of the Oklahoma section that directly bordered Alabama fans, so we were technically in different sections than the woman but really just a few rows ahead of her. She was the only one standing up in the Alabama section at that point, because the rest of the fans were so pissed off that they were losing. She was also sitting with her two young daughters, who were little blonde girls. Her teenaged old son was sitting about five seats away from them.

At the beginning of the game, they were kind of talking s—. They did an “SEC” chant right after the first touchdown of the game, and we all thought we were screwed at that point. So once we started winning, they shut their mouths and my crew of 6-10 people just started talking a lottttt of s—, specifically me and my friend who you can see waving the towel in the background of the video. At one point she went up to get a beer, and was kind of talking s— to us when she got back. She just kept flicking us off and stuff during the game. A few times, my friend yelled in the direction of her group of ‘Bama fans, “I yell ‘Roll Tide’ when I eff my cousin,” but since she was the only one standing it seemed like it was directed only at her.

At this point her 16-year-old son, who weighs about 120 pounds, told us to come up and fight him. We were like, “No, come down here.” That was when the woman came down and the video started. She was screaming at me, and sticking her tongue out at me so I asked, “Are you trying to make out with me?” And my friend was yelling “Kiss her! Kiss her!”

That’s when she walked away, and then jumped me. When she kicked me, it left giant boot marks on my shirt. I’m not sure if the guy restraining her was her husband or not—they weren’t sitting right next to each other—but she was kicked out of the game and her two daughters were crying. "

So she's sorry, but would do it all over again. Great apology there.

I wonder where her teenage son picked up the urge to fight people over little things...

The biggest impression I came away from that game with is that good GRIEF Alabama has one heck of a freshman running back. I'm talking about that Derrick Henry guy. He had 100 yards on 8 carries. Oklahoma couldn't tackle him then when he got a step he was gone.

I looked him up and he's listed at 6'3", 238 pounds. He only had 38 carries this year but averaged 10.6 yards per attempt. His top game this year was 111 yards against Arkansas. That was in only SIX carries.

If you'd have told me Alabama has a freshman back who's better than Yeldon I'd have said, "Yeah right." But they do. In fact the big question to me is why that guy didn't touch the ball a whole lot more for Alabama during the season in general and against Oklahoma in that bowl game in particular.

Since I was pulling for Oklahoma I'm glad he didn't. But that guy was as close to unstoppable as a running back as I've every seen. If he carries the ball a lot next year and doesn't get hurt I'd say give him the Heisman right now

I mean look at the speed in a 238 pound guy:
