Ranking the American AC's
2013 Football Uniforms

Image

1. UConn Huskies

Well done, UConn. You may not like the weird new front-facing helmet logo but no one can argue that the Huskies' new duds aren't a major improvement on their boring, plain and ancient looking uniforms. The added red trim have given this uniform an updated look and feel. And frankly, seeing something blue and white instead of red (and black) like every other team in this league gives UConn an edge. This is one of the better uniform remakes of recent memory and it makes the Huskies the best dressed team in the AAC.

Associate Commissioner for Communications John Paquette was let go today. The Twitter press has been very supportive of him.
Jeff Goodman ‏@GoodmanESPN 21m
Sad, sad news that longtime Big East associate commissioner of communications John Paquette let go by Mike Aresco. Was w/league since 1990.
Pete Thamel ‏@SIPeteThamel 1h
Not much has gone right since Mike Aresco took over the AAC/BE. Letting go John Paquette continues that trend. Total pro.
Andy Katz ‏@ESPNAndyKatz 1h
American takes a hit. Anchor from Big East. RT@wjpaquette: My resignation was announced today. Last day in the office. I've been lucky”

Baseball Championship To Be Held At Bright House Field
Image

Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced that the first American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship will be hosted at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla. The championship will take place May 21-25, 2014.

Bright House Field, which is regarded as one of the finest minor league playing and practice facilities in the nation, is no stranger to collegiate baseball after hosting seven Big East Championships. The site first hosted the conference tournament in 2006 and was the league’s championship destination for seven of the last eight years.

“We’re excited to partner with Bright House Field for our first baseball championship,” said Aresco. “Our goal is always to provide the best possible championship experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans. This partnership with Bright House Field and the support of the St. Petersburg-Clearwater area make that a certainty.”

“The City of Clearwater will look forward to welcoming the players, coaches and fans to Florida’s best beach town and to supporting the American Athletic Conference champion in its pursuit of its first College World Series championship,” said Clearwater mayor George Cretekos.

Bright House Field serves as the spring training site for the Philadelphia Phillies, and it has housed the Phillies’ Florida State League affiliate Clearwater Threshers since the facility opened in 2004.

Reports:
UCF to face Penn State in Ireland in 2014

Image

UCF will be traveling to Ireland in 2014 where they'll take on Penn State, according to multiple reports. An official announcement is expected Sunday.

The Orlando Sentinel and The Irish Times report the game will take place at 82,300-seat Croke Park in Dublin. The current head coaches at both programs — George O'Leary (UCF) and Bill O'Brien — have Irish bloodlines.

It will mark the fourth meeting between the schools. Penn State currently leads the series 2-0, but they'll face off again during the 2013 season at Beaver Stadium on Sept. 14.

Last year, Notre Dame and Navy played at Dublin's Aviva Stadium before an announced crowd of 48,200. The Fighting Irish defeated the Midshipmen 50-10

If Temple's QBs are worse than that group USF has, that's pretty scary

American AC execs finalize two divisions
Image
The two divisions begin in 2015, when Navy joins the league as a football-only member.

In 2015, the divisions will be split geographically, except Navy will in the AAC West along with Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane and Tulsa, a source said. The AAC East would consist of Cincinnati, UConn, UCF, East Carolina, South Florida and Temple.

"Texas is our No. 1 state for players," Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo told the Advocate.com. "So we'd prefer to play at either Houston or SMU every year. No plan is perfect, and we'll be happy wherever they put us."

The league also will have a conference championship game at a campus site between the East and West Division champions.

In 2014, the AAC will be an 11-team league. The AAC adds East Carolina, Tulane and Tulsa from Conference USA
