If they make it, they both have a great chance at winning, I don't think either one of those teams is weak.BlackFalkin wrote:tampajag wrote: isn't this similar to the arguments that were on the FCS board the past couple weeks?
Same sht i said about the playoffs last year & 2 days ago! BTW if BSU & TCU are too weak, if they make it to the NC they'll lose right?

Re: Ohio State President: Kind of a douche
I think Boise St. would gladly jump at the opportunity to join a BCS conference, but I don't think any invitations are forth coming.
The Big 10 just expanded, and didn't invite Boise St. If this guy was so worried about Boises' weak schedule he should have encouraged his conference to invite Boise.
Boise St. is doing everything it can to be a legitimate FBS power, BCS conferences and BCS schools like Ohio St are trying to keep them down with a rigged system.
I have no sympathy for this Ohio St. clowns point of view, it's just sour grapes on his part because no matter how much they try and rig the system there is still a chance that Boise or TCU could win the BCS NC game.

I understand that. The Big 10 is free to invite whoever they choose. But they shouldn't criticize the schedule of a team that doesn't fit their footprint.clenz wrote:Agreed on all accounts - but BSU isn't even close to B10 footprint they wanted.BlueHen86 wrote:I think Boise St. would gladly jump at the opportunity to join a BCS conference, but I don't think any invitations are forth coming.

Some teams have room to bash Boise for having a weak schedule. Nick Saban said the same thing as the Ohio State president earlier this season... but, he didn't get his ass handed to him in the press because Alabama's schedule is difficult.
Ohio State's schedule is as shitty as Boise's. They played a very mediocre Miami and a good Wisconsin team. And they lost to Wisconsin.

Re: Ohio State President: Kind of a douche
OSU President E. Gordon Gee wrote:...[H]aving been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it's like murderer's row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor. We play very fine schools on any given day. So I think until a university runs through that gantlet that there's some reason to believe that they not be the best teams to [be] in the big ballgame."
Oh, yeah?
Exactly....Boise State President Bob Kustra wrote:He claims that in the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12 it's murderer's row every week and there's absolutely little substance to that claim. The BCS has finally found someone to stand up and defend the indefensible and Gordon Gee proved it -- he not just proved that it's indefensible but he did so with facts that are simply wrong.
Kustra wrote:I just hope that when he speaks about his research profile or the quality of his university he's a little more believable than he is about athletics, because he's just so wrong on this one."
Double standard....TCU AD Chris Del Conte also took issue with Ohio State's nonconference schedule, which this year included Marshall from Conference USA along with Ohio and Eastern Michigan from the Mid-American Conference. The Buckeyes also played Miami, which was ranked No. 12 at the time.
Kustra said he it was hypocritical of Ohio State and all of the major BCS conferences to demean teams like Boise State. He said most of those conferences refuse to schedule his school. He said he had phone records that would prove that Boise State had tried to schedule home-and-home games with Top 25 teams from the BCS conferences, but that they would not play the Broncos anywhere but at their home stadium.
Oh, yeah? Prove it. Lower divisions have been conducting playoffs for years. What makes FBS athletes such sissies in the classroom?Gee wrote:...the current system is better for the student-athletes.
Problem: Gee has no nads....Del Conte to Gee wrote:Just name the place and time. Anytime. Anyplace. Anywhere. Buckeyes against the Horned Frogs. Tee it up. Let's go.
A guy who abolished an athletic department clearly has no business chiming in on sports. While he was at Vanderbilt, Gee abolished the athletic department since it was underwritten by the university's general fund anyway. He said he has no problem with an Ohio State program that fields 36 intercollegiate varsity teams and has an annual budget exceeding $120 million.
That explains his idiocy here. Joe Fan on these boards knows more than you. Shut up.Gee wrote:"Well, I don't know enough about the Xs and Os of college football,"
Here's the solution:
Kustra wrote:We probably need to sit down and think about a playoff system. The only outliers are the presidents of the schools in the large conferences. ... They're like puppets on a string for their conference commissioners. Once they are brought out into the open for their inaccuracies and falsehoods in their thinking, in Gee's case, the sooner I think the system falls on its own.

It would have some merit coming from an SEC president, there are one loss teams I'd take over Boise or TCU but they sure as heck aren't named Ohio State.
Just a shame they can't get these pompous douche bags like Gee to man up and get a playoff going. Which would actually make teams beat three high level teams in a row to win a title, teams wouldn't win a title on one fluky game and they wouldn't have to wait a month before playing the damn game.

Even a 4 team playoff, which would only involve 1 more game than we currently have, would solve many of the problems.FargoBison wrote:It would have some merit coming from an SEC president, there are one loss teams I'd take over Boise or TCU but they sure as heck aren't named Ohio State.

While I agree that there are some 1 loss teams that may be better than Boise or TCU, I would never vote for them ahead of Boise or TCU under the current system.
The main argument against a playoff is that a playoff would make the regular season meaningless. Seems to me that taking teams with 1 loss ahead of undefeated teams also makes the regular season meaningless. For the regualr season to have meaning, you have to reward/penalize teams based on their on field performance and not a perceived strength of schedule.

Are you seriously comparing the WAC to the Big Ten? When Colorado waxed Hawaii and Ole Miss beat Fresno State? And Nevada lost to Hawaii? And Boise State's best win is over a team that lost to an FCS team not in the playoffs?Skjellyfetti wrote:Some teams have room to bash Boise for having a weak schedule. The Big Ten might have some serious delusions of grandeur, but the WAC can't hold a candle to the Big Ten, and OSU would stomp a mudhole in BSU if they played.

Nevada and Boise are quality teams. Hawaii and Fresno are inconsistent. With Boise/Nevada/Fresno/Hawaii joining the MWC minus Utah/BYU what are the chances of that league getting an AQ eventually? With TCU and Boise consistently putting 10 win seasons together and Nevada on the rise (though I would like to see them win without kapernick (sp)) as well as San Diego State and the consistency of Air Force I think it would be a viable option for an AQ.
