Re: Sugar Bowl
Just woke up and saw that the Chokies choked away another BCS bowl. How surprising. Someone tell me up when they start inviting teams that actually deserve to be there in$tead of the likes of Michigan and VaTech.
It's a false start, although rarely called for some reason. I've seen it once on the collegiate level and I was personally called for it twice in high school.clenz wrote:He was stuttering on every kick for some reason....A lot of people are saying it should be a false start. I don't know if it is or not, but I've watched that same thing happen on hundred of kicks (hs through NFL) and never saw a false start caled on it.

Re: Sugar Bowl
1. That catch wasn't a catch. After he hit the ground the ball moved. It was only a slight movement but it moved. By rule the ball can't moved....oh and there is the fact the ball hit the ground as well.
2. Michigan went to ADIDAS because...well I don't know the full reason but ADIDAS offered more money than Nike and at the time more B10 schools were ADIDAS....After some research the ADIDAS deal was worth 7.5million dollars per year over 8 years, or double what the 7 year Nike contract that they had just come out of after 2007 was worth. The deal with Adidas expires after the 2015-2016 years. I really hope Nike makes a push to get Michigan back. Part of the reason Nike didn't pony up like Adidas did was they saw what was about to happen to Michigan football....
3. This was the second time this year Michigan wore the grey facemasks - the other being the ND game with the "legacy jersey" game. The grey was a "throwback" to the 50's and-1974. Michigan's jersey's weren't "throwback" in the traditional sense. Each of the 3 difference jerseys they wore were "legacy" jerseys that incorporated pieces of Michigan jerseys dating back to the turn of the 1900s. The same with the numbers. The grey facemask with numbers on the side was worn from 59-68, then the number was dropped in 69 and the facemask was moved to blue in 1975. The team wore the same helmet for the ND game, and liked the numbers on the helmet so much they wore it for the entire B1G season, and added the grey facemask in last night. I don't know if the numbers will carry to next year or not though.

Yeah they need to ditch the gray masks...looked goofy. Too much going on with 4 different colors.

Keep the numbers with the blue facemask.
Go with a plain blue top with maize numbers at home
Plain white top with blue numbers outlined in yellow on the road
yellow pants
Pretty much going back to the Nike uniforms...and Michigan uniforms of old

Yeah. 1-10 in New Years Day bowl games the last 2 season, 0-5 last season and 1-4 this season and they had to go to OT to get that win, Mich State over GA.Willie wrote:Just glad the Big Ten won another game.

Re: Sugar Bowl
Fair nuff. I will admit that it was great to see my Ducks finally get it done in a big bowl game.
Re: Sugar Bowl
Ducks are probably my second or third FBS team that I follow. I started with Harrington following them and then the jersey fun started and they got fun to watch. Dennis Dixon is what really locked me into them. Watching him was a ton of fun - even when they beat my Wolverines in 07.Grizalltheway wrote:Fair nuff. It was real nice to see them get the W.
I was listening to some sports talking heads tonight and they feel if Michigan can find a suitable replacement for Martin and Van Bergen upfront the title game will come down to USC and the winner of the Michigan/Alabama game.
Re: Sugar Bowl
FWIW here is a photo of the no-catch in OT. You can see the way the ball in angled there is no way the ball isn't going to hit the ground (which it did), or not move when it hits the ground (which it did)

From this photo you can see he still doesn't have control, even though his elbow is down in bounds.
The ball will hit the ground yet, and he won't gain control until his is OB.

Difference in creativity in the two fan bases
VaTech's version of a sign

Michigan's sign - a great play on the MSU fans bitching and crying over the bowl selections

A still photo is a poor substitute for slo motion video.

The commentators after they saw both angles in slo mo were calling it a catch. You're just blinded by your Michigan homerism.
The refs also gifted Michigan twice in OT with an obvious false start by the Michigan kicker that should have been flagged but wasn't.

Michigan got their 20 regulation points off the chokies special team choking (13) and int (7). They certainly didn't look good- VT otherwise dominated on both sides of the ball. Robinson is overrated. It doesn't matter. ACC and Big 10 both still suck.

Not a catch...ball movement = no control....that is what was said during the broadcast of the game.....also it's the same rule that bit Michigan in the ass during the final seconds of the Iowa game.
