Um...UOP has NEVER played in Anaheim. They played a few games in Fullerton and Irvine back when CSF and UCI had football programs. The Tigers are based in Stockton, however, which isn't anywhere near SoCal, much less the OC. The closest football schools to UOP are SJSU, Sac State, and the Manure Pile. Reno was a good close rival, as well. Back in UOP's glory days (WWII-Korean War era), there was a pretty good rivalry with Bezerkeley going on, too, mainly fueled by the V-12 program.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Then I don't know to whom Jelly was referring as Tennessee did in fact play Pacific in 1990.SuperHornet wrote:Um...UOP has NEVER played in Anaheim. Re: Ohio State WAY OVERRATED
That Tennessee did in fact play UOP is probably true. Given the way bodybag games go, however, that game was probably at Tennessee. If it WAS in Cali, the game would have been played at the late great Amos Alonzo Stagg Memorial Stadium, which was on the UOP campus in Stockton before it was demolished earlier this year.89Hen wrote:Then I don't know to whom Jelly was referring as Tennessee did in fact play Pacific in 1990.SuperHornet wrote:Um...UOP has NEVER played in Anaheim. Yup, finally finishing off the home and home that they played with KSU back in 2007. And this will be their first trip out of the South (assuming that you can call Kansas out of the South) since going to Syracuse in 2001. At this rate, Auburn should have enough frequent flier miles for a free trip somewhere by 2100. Road warriors indeed.Skjellyfetti wrote:Bump for Auburn @ Kansas State this weekend.GannonFan wrote:let me know the next time an SEC team travels any real distance and plays a game on campus on the road against a top ranked team in the regular season.

The media went crazy, calling that a "body slam." That was no body slam, as that implies the recipient being raised over the head. This was much closer to either a hip toss or a Rock Bottom....

Is there an SEC team that doesn't play an FCS team every year?Edit: It is important to note, this analysis does not count FCS games into the calculation,

It's really tomfoolery to try and argue the SEC isn't the best league in college football.
South Carolina might be the second-worst team in the league, and they beat a pretty good East Carolina team and beat UGA who ran Clemson off the field.

No one's arguing that, even with Missouri losing at home to Indiana. The SEC is the best conference in the land. But they also don't have difficult OOC schedules or normally schedules that take them out of the region. There are exceptions, but they are few and far between.Pwns wrote:It's really tomfoolery to try and argue the SEC isn't the best league in college football.

You mean like the fact that Florida has not played an OOC regular season game outside of the state of Florida in 23 years?

A 17 point loss, on the road (but out of the weather) to Syracuse in 1991 probably cost Florida the national title that year as it was their only loss outside of that beatdown in the Sugar Bowl by Notre Dame. Florida learned their lesson and they haven't left the South since.dbackjon wrote:GannonFan wrote:

I think there were maybe 4 or 5 P5 teams that aren't playing an FCS team this year.
But, yeah... keep telling yourself it's only the SEC scheduling FCS games.

Well, there's at least 10 who don't play an FCS team off the top of my head: Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, USC, UCLA, Ohio St, Penn St, Arizona, and Boise St. But yeah, keep telling yourself that the SEC doesn't schedule weak OOC games, or that they play OOC a lot out of their region.Skjellyfetti wrote:(Almost) everybody plays an FCS team every year. More quality OOC scheduling by the Pac 12.
SEC needs to follow suit.

Since you brought it up, let's compare Cal's scheduling with Auburn's scheduling. Again, since you brought it up:
Let's look at the road OOC scheduling for each since, say, the year 2000:
2000: Cal @ Illinois Auburn - no road OOC game
2001: Cal @Rutgers Auburn @ Syracuse (loss)
2002: Cal @ Michigan St Auburn @ USC (loss)
2003: Cal @Kansas St and Cal @Illinois Auburn - no road OOC game
2004: Cal @ Air Force Auburn - no road OOC game
2005: Cal @New Mexico St Auburn - no road OOC game
2006: Cal @ Tennessee Auburn - no road OOC game
2007: Cal @ Colorado St Auburn - no road OOC game
2008: Cal @ Maryland Auburn @ West Virginia (loss)
2009: Cal @ Minnesota Auburn - no road OOC game
2010: Cal @ Nevada Auburn - no road OOC game
2011: Cal @ Fresno Auburn - neutral site in ATL vs. Clemson (loss)
2012: Cal @ Ohio St Auburn @ Clemson (loss)
2013: Cal - no road OOC game Auburn - no road OOC game
2014: Cal @ Northwestern Auburn @ Kansas St (win - finally)
So in 15 years, Cal has played away games on the campus of OOC opponents 15 times, including at least 3 times going all the way across the country and playing more than one time zone away 9 times. Auburn, on the other hand, played road OOC games 6 times in those 15 years (I'm even counting the "neutral site" game played in Atlanta, which is about 90 minutes away from Auburn's campus) and in the other 9 years did not leave campus except in conference. Oh, and in those 6 games, Auburn is 1-5 now, thanks to finally getting off the schnide this year. So tell me, is Cal scheduling harder OOC than Auburn is? And you figure in most years Cal is playing one quality OOC team at home and playing the other on the road (Cal will typically do home and home arrangements) so there's another quality OOC game each year in addition to the road ones listed above.
Oh, and thanks for the article. Even further completes Cal's scheduling philosophy - they're on the road in the next 5 years against Texas, San Diego St, North Carolina, BYU, and then Auburn. I agree, it would be great if the entire SEC adopted that kind of a road schedule. Imagine Auburn leaving the south more than once in the next 5 years. Yeah, I can't imagine it either. Right now Auburn's future schedules have a road tilt at Clemson in 2017 (so nothing next year or the year after) and then the road game at Cal in 2020. They do probably need the 6 years of preparation time between now and then to figure how to travel that far, it's not something they have a lot of practice doing.
Keep the articles coming, it's like a goldmine!!!!

Re: Ohio State WAY OVERRATED
GF, are you sure that there's a long list of P5s just aching to play major SEC teams?
Remember when LSU beat Oregon at a neutral location in 2011 and made their high-scoring offense look feckless? Yeah, that was a big reason there was an all-SEC national championship that year. Then of course Alabama played a home-and-home with Penn State around that time and won both games, and they curb-stomped Michigan in Ann Arbor who was the preseason #8 in 2012.
Maybe a lot of teams are hesitant to play major SEC programs because SEC teams can dash national championship hopes of top teams from major conferences? Why give the SEC the chance to remove any doubt they are the best league with non-conference scheduling?

I said "MORE quality OOC scheduling by the Pac 12" - as in - they continue to schedule well OOC.
I didn't bother to read the rest of your JSO diatribe because I think it's arguing this point.
