Ok.

And, look at Tennessee, for example. Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, and Butch Jones weren't homerun hires by any stretch.

I mean, Derek Dooley was coming off of a 4-8 season at Louisiana Tech when Tennessee hired him.

Butch Jones is doing well at Tennessee... but, he certainly was risky and not a homerun.

And, I'd still put Tennessee in a tier above South Carolina as a coaching job. They're a tradition SEC power - 2nd winningest program in the conference after Alabama. They've been to 5 SEC titles - tied for 3rd after Alabama and Florida. 2nd largest stadium in the conference. If Tennessee and South Carolina were pursuing the same coach, I'm pretty sure Tennessee would get him.

And, I'd put Georgia with Alabama, LSU, and Florida and also add Texas A&M as "top programs" in the SEC.

South Carolina ain't one. They'll have to settle when hiring a coach. The five programs I listed wouldn't have to settle. That's all I'm saying.

Do you want to go overall or just football? Because, the SEC is much more than football. In terms of baseball, USC is way ahead many of the other schools. We have 11 CWS appearances, second to LSU with 17.

We aren't too bad in basketball, we're no Kentucky.

Uh.

Since we're talking about hiring a football coach... I think it makes sense to stick to football?

Unless you can provide some sort of argument that South Carolina's baseball success is a reason they should have attracted a better football coach? :?

I was talking about our rank in the SEC overall. SCar isn't a powerhouse, we know that. Maybe Muschamp will thrive in Cola.

In other news, the guy Muschamp thought would make a good linebacker won the Heisman trophy last night.

Tennessee and Auburn would be the next programs I'd list. But, I don't think either are in the same group as those listed.

And, that's coming from a Tennessee fan.

Would you put Auburn ahead of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU or Texas A&M as far as a coaching job? :?

edit: My rankings would be pretty similar to this:
And, South Carolina is 11th, btw:

A&M for sure. On par with UGA, and certainly top 5 with Bammer, Florida, LSU, and UGA. Winning a chipper puts them in an elite category.

Holy illogical rankings...

11. SOUTH CAROLINA
Location: There’s plenty of good golf
Fan support: the fan support here is remarkably good
Stadium: Williams-Brice Stadium is one of the more underrated game-day experiences in the country
In-state talent: it produces its share of high-quality youngsters

8. ARKANSAS
Location: Fayetteville
Fan support: the Razorbacks pretty well own the entire state
Tradition/prestige: More known for their accolades in the old Southwest Conference than what they have done in the SEC
Stadium: It’s middle of the pack as far as SEC stadiums go
In-state talent: Middle-of-the-road as far as high school players go

Yeah. The author talks about other colleges being between big cities, or in a small college town. But SCar gets a mention about golf? There's also a good bit of outdoor activities you can do, you're about 90 miles from Charlotte and not far from the mountains or the coast.

But fuck that, there's some decent golf around.

Meanwhile, UGA gets
Location: Athens is quite possibly the perfect college town. Good proximity to Atlanta as well
That's what UGA gets? Athens is a shit hole town and approx. 20 miles closer to Atl than Columbia is to Charlotte (however, it's only 7 minutes further when you take interstate travel into consideration.)

You're the first person I've ever heard say that Athens is a shithole. But, ok. To each his own.

Where would y'all rank South Carolina as a coaching job in the SEC?

Is the debate about where they belong in the 8-11 group? Ok. Those are pretty interchangeable and not much difference between them, imo.

Would any of you put them in the top half of the SEC as a coaching job?

Have you BEEN to Athens? My cousins that graduated from UGA call it a shit hole. I know 3 people more than you.

Another thing about that "article", I would've thought Ole Miss would've been further ahead of USC.

That site, on another page, they rank Carolina with a .514 win percentage #13 behind Vanderbilt at #11 with a .498 win percentage.

Carolina isn't the "cream of the crop" I'd but them somewhere between 8-10 in the SEC.

I'd put it ahead of Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas, Miss St, Ole Miss, Missouri and on par with ATM and Tennessee.

You're so fucking predictable.

Statesboro is a typical college town. It's pluses are it isn't full of smarmy snotty UGA students, hot chicks, and it's an hour from the beach. Athens is an hour from an even bigger shithole in Atlanta.
