Sources: Schools may rejoin MWC

Boise State, San Diego State and BYU have had conversations with Mountain West membership about the possibility of returning to the league, sources told ESPN.

The talks originated after last week's decision in Denver by the BCS commissioners to award an automatic access bowl berth to the highest-rated champion to the "Group of Five" conferences. That decision in essence put the Mountain West on equal footing, as far as playoff access is concerned, with the Big East starting in 2014.

Louisville will join the Atlantic Coast Conference, becoming the sixth former Big East school to leave for the ACC, sources told ESPN.

The ACC's presidents and chancellors voted to add the Cardinals Wednesday morning to replace Maryland, which will leave for the Big Ten in 2014.

Louisville is expected to join the ACC in the same season, sources said. Big East rules require a $10 million exit fee and 27 months notice, but the Cardinals -- like several schools before them -- should be able to negotiate a higher buyout to leave before the 27-month period.

Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee State are leaving the Sun Belt Conference for Conference USA, sources told ESPN.

FAU and Middle Tennessee are expected to join Conference USA in 2014. Conference USA added FAU and Middle Tennessee to replace Tulane and East Carolina, which announced Tuesday they were joining the Big East.

The addition of FAU and Middle Tennessee will give Conference USA 14 league members in 2014.

I'm a UConn fan. I'm disappointed, but not pissed. I can't be pissed at the ACC for making the right move. The conference poaching is not done, and I think the ACC will lose more schools. UConn will always be available, whereas Louisville might have joined the Big XII if the ACC didn't take them now. I think UConn will end up in the ACC at some point.

Still talk in Minnesota about the B1G going to 16 teams sooner than later. Top schools mentioned are Georgia Tech and Virginia with North Carolina being mentioned. Doubt UNC would come without Duke.

Quote:
The presidents of the Big East's seven Catholic, non-Football Bowl Subdivision schools are expected to decide on their future in the Big East in the coming days, and it "would be an upset" if they remained in the league, sources told ESPN.

The seven schools -- DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, St. John's, Seton Hall and Villanova -- are "close to a consensus on what they want to do next," a source said Wednesday.

The presidents of the seven schools are scheduled to conduct a teleconference with Big East commissioner Mike Aresco on Thursday and are expected to issue a statement on their schools' future in the next 24 to 48 hours.

This is about to get real for us at this level.

App
GSU
JMU
liberty
Jacksonville St

You're on deck.

My prediction (a guess)....SoCon gets raided by Sun Belt and the CAA. Big South gets raided by the SoCon. NEC gets raided by the MAAC and America East (partially in-process).

Big South football is gone.
SoCon becomes the old Big South
CAA South becomes the old SoCon sans GSU/App St
NEC football is a weird combination of affiliate schools who just need a home.

Expanding/changing just for the sake of doing it isn't worth it.

The Missouri Valley Conference and Ivy League are the only conferences left who haven't had a membership change since 1993

Looks like the Non-FBS schools are gone from the Big East.
