You're right that Oregon's D statistically doesn't impress but they're a top-30 defense in terms of points allowed per game.
And the Pac 12 has some decent offenses.

I see this going like their MSU game.
Like I said, Oregon's defense isn't very good. Subpar at best. They were very fortunate on the 4 turnovers, 3 of them unforced. Otherwise OSU likely would have put up 56 to 63 with 600-700 yds offense.
12 OSU possessions. 6 TDs, 4 turnovers, 1st half punt, and the 1 punt late in the 4th qtr when they had it 4th and 1 and took an intentional delay of game despite being 3 for 3 on 4th down conversions and basically moving the ball on Oregon at will.

In one sense they did. I think it's very reasonable to say that the national title was decided when Ohio State played Alabama. Had it been Alabama vs. Oregon and Ohio State vs. Florida State in the first round I think most would agree it likely would've been Alabama vs. Ohio State for the title. Alabama, I think, would have absolutely pistol whipped Oregon.
Here's a great read that Deadspin put out before the game started about why this was a bad matchup for Oregon going in.

It turned out to be spot on.

http://regressing.deadspin.com/why-ohio ... 00/+kylenw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's easy to say that Oregon would've been blasted by Alabama, but their pass defense is awful (Mariota very likely would've had a monster game), and their rush offense isn't nearly what OSU's is.

Oregon losing their best receiver before the title game certainly didn't help, either.

I'm not ready to say Bama would've beaten Oregon, but it probably would've been close.

The cliche about Oregon being "soft," as I said they looked "soft" on defense against Florida State but it kind of got lost because Florida State stopped itself with turnovers, was validated. They're soft on defense. They can't hold up against a team with a physical running game.

Also I thought Ohio State played a better team than Oregon to get TO the title game and they clearly did. The championship game was really when Ohio State played Alabama.
I agree Alabama is the #2 team in the country for sure

Yep. And they'll be your preseason #1 and #2 next season. And in 2 years, maybe even by next year, Urban will have OSU matching Bama in the top to bottom talent category. The amount of talent those 2 teams will have will be ridiculous.

Yeldon is a better running back than anybody Ohio State has including #15 who got more than 200 tonight. Only question is if he'd have been healthy or not.

And if you've watched Yeldon play to any extent you know what I'm talking about. #15 is very good. EXTREMELY good. But Yeldon is superhuman when healthy. And the other guy is extremely physical too.

Alabama does, I think, have an even more physical running game than Ohio State does even though it didn't average quite as many yards per game.

In fact I think at least some Alabama fans would say they didn't use it enough against Ohio State and went to the passing game too much.

It's like I said in some other thread: You could see that Oregon's defense was soft during the Florida State game. It's just that Florida State kept getting stopped by turnovers. But when Florida State would just run right at Oregon with power they were gashing them. In fact they probably kind of outsmarted themselves and passed more than they needed too. They'd be gashing Oregon running the football with power then they'd decide to start throwing the ball and put themselves in bad down/distance situations.

But you could see that Oregon couldn't stop the run.

OSU was way overrated in early Sept. A week after struggling with Navy they were handled by an above avg, unranked then, and unranked now, VT team that went 6-6 in their other 12 games (whom OSU would blow off the field now). OSU maybe shouldn't even have been ranked at that point, certainly not in the top 10. Obviously COMPLETELY different team now, one of the biggest improvements we have ever seen in college footbal over the course of a season.

But I think people are over estimating Oregon because of the big point spread vs. Florida State due to the turnovers and under estimating how much talent Ohio State has. I think Ohio State is the more talented team. It's just that Oregon has a really good system and a quarterback who is a huge dual threat and will probably be picked at or near #1 overall in the next NFL draft.

But Ohio State beat a lot better team than Florida State to get to this point. I think Ohio State has more overall talent; though a lot of it is young. Also, until proven otherwise I have to give the "head coach" edge to Ohio State. This is not the Florida State head coach. This is Urban Meyer.

We shall see.

TCU was better than any of them :)

Both TCU and Ohio St played Minnesota. TCU blew out the Goofs, while Ohio St had a tough time with them.

Give Ohio St credit - all year long I thought the 2 best teams in the country were Alabama & Oregon & they beat them both in a 11-day span.

I haven't been a fan of Oregon's D scheme all year with the 3-man line, but their tackling did them in last night. They looked like they didn't expect Jones to run at all for some reason. You learn in Pop Warner that if a guy is bigger than you shoot low. Why the Ducks didn't do that last night is beyond me.

TCU beat Minn by 23 at home. OSU beat Minn by 7 on the road. Difference of 16, but after you account for the +3.5/-3.5 home/away, it's only 9. Not THAT much better. TCU also gave up 61 to Baylor and struggled with a 3-9 Kansas and 7-6 WVU.

The Big 12 screwed themselves by not scheduling a league champ game. 11 wins isn't going to get you in over oher P5 teams that have 12-13 wins.

There would have been 5 deserving teams: the 4 that were and the winner of the game that never happened: Big 12 champ game between TCU and Baylor.

This is where you bring in 8 teams vs 4 teams. Maybe limit schedule to 11 games instead of 12 for FBS, now that the playoffs are in the mix.

That will never happen. Not going to have 128? (Within a couple years) teams play 1 less game so it makes it easier to schedule 1 more playoff round.

I also doubt it would happen, but they can figure this out to get the best teams in there. What if TCU was in and Ohio St was out?

And today the final poll would have come out and Ohio State would have been 5th, behind the winner of Alabama/Florida State (#1), the loser of Alabama/Florida State (#2), TCU (#3) and Baylor (#4). Then we all would have to listen to them good ol' boys from the SEC telling us why they are so awesome and the rest are not worth a crap.

Actually, I have to admit that I did not watch a single football game since watching part of the FBS games last weekend. Life got in the way.

Ohio State punched Oregon in the mouth and the Ducks folded like a cheap suit.

The game was never really in question, you could see it on the Oregon players faces. They knew they were over matched and there was nothing they could do about it. Amazing performance by OSU, wow.

Oregon's school colors are green and yellow right? i swore I didn't see a speck of green or yellow on their jersey, pants, or helmet. Or shoes. Or socks. None. Who the f would play in an NC game With millions of people watching on TV and wear some grey//white/black garb that contained zero of your school colors?

Their throwbacks are their best uniforms. If they came up with a road set of those, they'd be the best dressed in FBS.

Ohio State needs to just stick with their normal home and aways. The two playoff sets looked ok, but their normals are way better.

I think the idea of a 4 team "playoff" absurd and you need more in the field. I think TCU should've been in the field....even THOUGH you'd have to say that if you were just taking conference champions the situation at the end of the regular season is that Baylor should've been in before TCU.

But I think Ohio State had WAY more overall team talent than TCU did. WAY more.

When you look at how Ohio State did you have to remember that it was a very young team that got better as the season went on. I'm watching the title game on DVR right now and the number of times you hear "freshman" and "sophomore" when Ohio State players are making plays is ridiculous.

True. It's also experience. VT in early Sept had more experience. OSU is unique because their talent was bottom heavy 1st and 2nd year, and the biggest imrovements experience wise tend to be in the 1st year playing and from year 1 to 2.
