When I was at Harvard, the BB team usually did very well in its annual Southern tour. How times have changed!

Weekend series vs Lamar. Payback time for the SLC championship game loss last year.
Game 1 played last night
Their ace vs our ace (although Smith has not seemed to yet recover from his pre-season shoulder problem)
Blake Ford
SR RHP 6-5 215 Lufkin, TX
2011
3-1, 1.62 ERA in 5 appearances
33.1 IP, 26 Ks, 11BB

Carson Smith
Jr. RHP, 6-5, 215, Midland TX
Pre-season All American
2011
2-1, 2.25 ERA, in 4 starts & 1 relief app
28 IP, 34Ks, 9 BB

Smith wins the battle going 7 and fanning 8
Ford pulled in the 5th

Cats win 7-1 (and left 11 on base :ohno: )

I feel we can not lose any of these conference series...at all, if we are going to impress the NCAA selection committee. 38 wins and the regular season conference championship didn't cut it last year.
Hell I hate to see them lose any games (all 5 losses have been OOC) let alone to any other SLC team. Running the table isn't easy...but I'd love to see it.

StonyBrook improved to to 12-5 this afternoon defeating Army 1-0 and picking up their 2nd no hitter of the season. The Seawolves will play the Blackknights again on Monday at 3:30pm. This was scheduled to be a four game series but was shortened to just 2 games.

TXST takes 2/3 from Lamar and still atop the SLC (17-6, 8-1)
Missouri on Weds then SFA (17-7, 8-1) at home next weekend.
We'll see what SFA brings because looking at their OOC they haven't played just the cream of the crop and their SLC series have been
UCA (12-13, 3-6)
NWS (7-16, 2-7)
Nicholls (8-14, 1-8)

Their loss this weekend was to Nicholls, our was to Lamar (17-10, 6-3)

Should be another interesting weekend in San Marcos.

@ 17-6 with an RPI and NPI of 12 (Nolan's) and SOS of 21, TXST still can't crack the polls. We did get 21 'other's receiving votes' votes, up from 16 last week. Still #3 in the mid-major poll.

Not to worry folks 11-8 UCLA (92, 81, 122) is still in there @ 15/24 holding down the mediocrity vote :sarcasm:

Good, you do that. If I can stay awake (I know it's early but it was my early (5:30 AM) day and I'm wiped out) I'll follow it on gametracker.

These came to light today and yes, I know it's a long season that's only 1/3 over but this is if the season had ended today. In any case, us even being considered is kinda cool

Per SERegional Baseball

http://sebaseball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=12055%2044

San Marcos Regional
Host: Texas State

1. Texas State (SLC Automatic) 17-6 #12
4. Creighton (MVC Automatic) 16-5 #83
2. Rice (CUSA at large) 16-11 #26
3. Texas Tech (B12 at large) 17-8 #31

Then:
Kendall Rogers @ Perfect Game has us in the Austin Regional as the #1 seed
Heads would EXPLODE in Austin if that came about.

The Quote:
From Perfect Game:* What about regional hosts? Outside of the eight hosts that include Virginia, Florida, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Fresno State and Florida State, here are eight other hosts: North Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Stanford, Cal State Fullerton, Baylor, Stetson, East Carolina and TCU. Another hosting option right now would be Texas with Texas State as the No. 1 seed.

Yes, our power rankings, record and SOS has been better than UT...all year (so far)

Series against SFA for 1st place in the SLC

TXST takes game 1 10-3 on the arm of Carson Smith (4-1, 1.29 ERA) and 9Ks (51) and the bat of LFJeff McVaney (4-5, 2 RS, RBI, .358) and Ory Kalenkosy (HR #10, RBI 35 leads the SLC)
Tyler Sibley extends his 2011 hitting streak (a TXST record) to 25 games (30 overall) and 3B Kubitza had some damn good plays at the hot corner

Game 2 tomorrow @ 2PM CST

Lee Colon (1-2, 2.78) 19Ks in 22.2 innings
vs.
Jared West (4-1, 2.89)

Colon's pitching has been better than his record and he deserves more support from the Bobcat offense. Moved this week from weekday starter to weekend rotation.

Cats win game 2 12-11. It was a slugfest that wouldn't stop and both teams ERAs are going to suffer after this.
Good points - Sibley extends his hitting streak to 26(31)
TXST pulled a DP on a FC with 1 out and runners on 2nd & 3rd. Ball was hit back to the pitchers' mound and went:
1-2-6-5(out)-4-3-5-8(out)

I kind of lost track on all the throws but it came about because the hit and throw home forced the runner on 3rd to hold but the runner on 2nd had gone half way to third. So we got him out. The runner on 3rd held as the 3B moved in towards the mound but the guy that hit the ball (got a FC) tried for 2nd in all the fray (thus the throw to 4-3) but got back. Then to hold the runner on 3rd, again, the throw went to the 3B and the guy on 1st tried again...throw from 3-8 (our CF had come in to cover behind 2nd.)

It was kinda wild and wish to God they had video of it.

Rodney Hennon finally with a good baseball move. Switched the lineup. Still have Moye playing 3rd, which he has absolutely no business doing as he hits like Corky and he is a weekend starter.

StonyBrook swept a double header yesterday from NYIT.
Game 1- SBU 6 NYIT 0
Game 2 SBU 10 NYIT 1
SBU pitching continues to dominate as our four starters have not given up an earned run in 44.1 innings, including a no hitter last week at Army. Both teams will play another double header today starting at 12 noon. SBU is now 15-5 on the season.

Lost today 7-6. Puts us @ 19-8, 10-2. It was an odd day as I had a feeling (driving to the game) we wouldn't win. It was a comedy (not really funny) of errors and I was right.

Here's how the weekend went:
We have had this crew once before this season. One of the umpires is one of those "look at me I'm the umpire and in control of this game, so check me out" guys. (Umpire A for my post)
Umpire A was behind the plate Friday. He has no specific strike zone and seemed to call strikes at his whim (on both teams) He couldn't do much damage (other than get players totally frustrated because they didn't know what the strike zone would be from AB to AB) and we managed to overcome his idiocy by hitting. Umpire B (the best of the lot) was at 1st and every play @ 1st he was spot on. Umpire C (almost as arrogant as A) couldn't call a play @ second if you paid him (ok, so they get paid)

Saturday - Umpire B is behind the plate and had a great eye and excellent strike zone. No issues with the guy. Umpire A is now @ 3rd. Hmmmm we run a rotating pick-off play @ 2nd, executed to perfection. Caught the guy off and had him dead to rights. Didn't even slide. Tagged on his leg (standing) and Umpire A, in his infinite wisdom, calls him safe.
Same game, Our catcher hits a ball in the gap, and ends up being sent all the way around because of errors and miscues by SFA. Anyway, he's not the fastest guy on the team and is called out @ home (just barely but the right call). So SFA leaves the field, our guys are taking the field but Stumph has to shed his batting gloves, and leg guard and get his equipment on. Next thing you know the SFA batter in the batting circle is awarded a ball.
Ty is livid and goes out to to Umpire A (who is on 3rd) and lets into him.
Umpire A says we violated the 90 second rule. Ty says he's my catcher..that's an exception. Umpire A says well, sorry, I didn't know he was and doesn't rescind the ball. Ty has, apparently, contacted the league office on this one.

Sunday - Umpire C behind home plate. Another whimsical strike zone. 1st inning ( Umpire A on 1st) we catch a guy napping on 1st, glove between hand and base. Not even close....you guessed it....safe
5th inning - 3B (Kubitza) gets a triple that plates 2. Ball got away from their 3B on the throw in and our guy is sent home. Close play but he slides on the inside with just his hand crossing over the plate. Catcher is outside and has to turn to tag him and misses. Called out by Umpire C. Crowd is appalled and angry. Kubitza jumps up and goes over to the ump. Not in his face, didn't throw anything, didn't touch him. Makes one statement and is ejected.
(This leads to having to sub him with a guy who has never played 3rd and subsequently made an error that led to a run and missed an easy grounder our SS had to make the play on but it was an 'infield' hit...also led to a run)

I think I saw our coach in umpires' faces more in this 3 game series than I have the past 3 years.

Can a school request to not have a particular crew work their games? Only the one guy is worth his salt and it's a shame he has to work with these two bozos

StonyBrook split a double header with NYIT. SBU dropped game 1 2-1 and then roared back winning game 2- 10-3.
SBU is 16-6 on the season and will open America East play this coming weekend hosting the Maine Black Bears in a four game series.

StonyBrook announced today two make up games for two that were snowed out against Army. On 4/7 we will host Iona and on 4/13 we will travel to play CCSU. The Army series was four games originally but Games 1 and 2 were called due to snow. Two good additions though 1 MAAC team and 1 NEC.
