You're on deck.

My prediction (a guess)....SoCon gets raided by Sun Belt and the CAA. Big South gets raided by the SoCon. NEC gets raided by the MAAC and America East (partially in-process).

Big South football is gone.
SoCon becomes the old Big South
CAA South becomes the old SoCon sans GSU/App St
NEC football is a weird combination of affiliate schools who just need a home.
Coastal would do well in the SOCON. Do you think the SoCon will be cannibalized that much?

I think the Socon will lose the following:

App State - FBS
GSU - FBS
Wofford - CAA
Furman - CAA
Elon - CAA

I think in a few years we will see App State at the FBS level. In light of recent events and statements, this is a no brainer. I would hope that the SOCON retains some members other than Western Carolina and The Citadel to at least keep some competitiveness. What's the point of moving from the Big South if you're just going to play the same teams in conference play?

An auto bid for one of the conferences, most likely the Sun Belt, is in serious jeopardy:

For an auto, six teams must have played together for five consecutive years.

nBE
Houston
Memphis
Tulane
Southern Methodist
Central Florida

They need one more. I assume ECU's invite becomes all-sport.

C-USA
Group 1
Marshall
Rice
Southern Mississippi
Tulsa
Alabama-Birmingham
Texas-El Paso

Group 2
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Middle Tennessee State
North Texas

---
If the new Big East takes one more Conference USA team from Group 1, Conference USA will lose it's auto bids unless they take two more teams from the Sun Belt to get to the magic number of six core members that have played together for five consecutive years (Group 2). If that happens, the Sun Belt would lose its auto bid as they would only have four members that have played together for such a time.

I wondered if you were Smudge on CSN - since you posted the exact same thing here as there :)

So are you a terrorist on those boards as well?

Nah, I'm not as personal on those boards although I have met a handful of the posters. For the longest time on CAAzone, most people thought I was a woman 'cause I was too nice.

Looks like the Non-FBS schools are gone from the Big East.
Another step towards the mega-four conferences. All else will be irrelevant in football.

They don't have to be, a good private school is good for the league. VCU is public

If they want Catholic they go with Xavier, SLU and Creighton. If they're looking for an urban based league, SLU, Xavier and Butler are in the largest cities plus they're good fits from a location perspective. Omaha is one of the smallest of the 6 cities and it's the furthest outside the geographic footprint so I don't think Creighton is as likely. Richmond has the next largest metro area with Dayton close to Omaha in metro population. Dayton does give Xavier a travel partner and is more centrally located than VCU.

It's going to be interesting to see how this shakes out.

I want to see the A10 adds
GMU has to be the top of the list after that, Northeastern? Hofstra? Siena? Detroit? I think they'll add 2-4 schools depending on if the BE bball goes to 10 or 12.

Wagner seems to have been worried about NEC not letting them keep fb in the NEC so they stayed. Monmouth wasn't worried?

danefan, see if you can find/hear anything about NEC not allowing Wagner and Monmouth to remain in the NEC for fb only. If they told Wagner they won't have a fb home and Monmouth left while Wagner stayed behind, that tells me Monmouth could be #12 for CAA or fb only in Big South

I think the SI Live article is really just speculating that football would have been an issue.

From Monmouth's very very good beat writer Tony Graham
MU statement on football from the AD: MU looks forward to continuing its positive relationship with the NEC in football.

Tony is very connected to the NEC and Monmouth. They will apply for affiliate membership in the NEC. Worst case scenario they'll go to the Big South. Big South will take them in a heartbeat and they could play in the Big South as they are now and probably do very well even without the 63 scholarships.

Interesting, so Wagner not on good terms if they left but Monmouth is. I wonder if CCSU won't move to the AEC, more fitting as all but 1 are public vs NEC all but them private because they are worried about getting kicked out for fb.

Bryant +3 to the AEC? Do they want to sponsor football? CCSU has to be another, I hear RMU, NJIT are possible targets.

Columbus St. looking at moving to D-I and adding football. A-Sun or Big South would be their landing spot if they move.

The Broncos are negotiating for the right to broadcast their own football games, a concession they are unlikely to receive from the MWC.
