Any College Wrestling Fans Around Here?

Despite my 'first love' of football, I still respect collegiate/olympic wrestling as the ultimate and original sport. No excuses. Just you and your opponent. #9 in country, Lehigh, travels to #5 Cornell Friday night for what should be a good 'slobberknocker'. Cornell favored in 4 weights, Lehigh in 3, with three weights a toss-up. A lot of Top 20 wrestlers facing off against each other. Anyone in the Ithaca, NY area should check it out.

I follow it as much as I can - hoping to get to an Arizona State match this year.

Really wish NAU still had a program - lot of good talent here in Arizona.

I am. Wrestling is the number sport in my house, my older son is wrestling in HS and my younger one is wrestling in MS. I used to get to at least 1 Lehigh match a year, but haven't been able to work it into the schedule recently.

Look, you guys keep up your talking and Vernon's gonna come right in here. I got a meet this Saturday and I'm not gonna miss it on account of you boneheads.

Image
Oh and wouldn't that be a bite, huh? Missing a whole wrestling meet!

Image
Well you wouldn't know anything about it, faggot! You never competed in your whole life!

Image
Oh, I know. I feel all empty inside because of it. I have such a deep admiration for guys that roll around on the floor with other guys.

Image
Ahhh, you'd never make it. You don't have any goals.

Image
Oh, but I do!

Image
Yeah?

Image
I wanna be just--like--you. I figure all I need's a lobotomy and some tights!

Image
You wear tights?

Image
No I don't wear tights, I wear the required uniform.

Image
Tights.

Image
Shut up.

And the only reason Jon knows this is because he's "wrestled" with all of them. ;)

F yes! I follow Wyoming Cowboy wrestling.. this might be the year we crack the top 25. Only dual losses this year were to Michigan State and Oregon State. Oklahoma State Friday night in Laramie should be a good dual. Pokes finished 7th in Reno, 10th in Vegas. Wrestling will always be the #1 sport in this house.

Okie State will be a real barometer fory the Cowboys. MSU and Oregon St. are not as strong as their tradition. The 133 pounder for Okie State, Oliver, is a red shirt freshman from here in Easton, PA and already ranked #6 in country.

Wyoming had an all-American true freshman last year, first ever for the Pokes. I think the only reason the OSU dual got scheduled was because Wyoming's 2nd year coach came from OSU. Does Lehigh travel much to the West for any tournaments?

Occasionally, about once every four years we'll go to the West Coast and wrestle Cal-Davis, Stanford, Cal Poly, Cal Bakersfield, Oregon State, AZ State. Sometimes a western tournament...I think we went to one last year in Reno, NV (although that may have been an individual tournament and not dual team matches). We do go to the Midwest frequently, with Michigan, Iowa, Iowa State, and the two Oklahomas...The Michigan series has become a real tradition as I think we have wrestled them now for 30 years straight. Due to travel costs and academic interference, they usually go where they can schedule 3 duals over a weekend. With Wyoming being somewhat by itself, it would difficult to schedule a dual with the Cowboys but then have to travel a great distance for another match. Best shot at a dual would be in a dual tournament like the Va. Duals, or the Brute or Southern Scuffle.

Forgot to mention this in my prior post...But I think it's great that some schools are putting an effort in rejuvenating the sport. I go the the NCAAs every year and I do recall Wyoming last year in St. Louis. This year they are in Omaha...It's a great three days if you can take the time off.

A four way dual is possible in Wyoming.. as UW, Air Force, Northern Colorado, and Colorado School of Mines are all right close together.. within 2 hrs of each other. But the WWC is VERY spread out.. from Utah Valley St to the xDSU schools. I believe the Pokes were at the Virginia Duals last year or the year before. I would like to see a revival of the WAC days of wrestling.. Wyoming, BYU, AFA, Utah, etc.. but those days are long gone.. hard to find a lot of teams that still wrestle here in the West. Too many programs have been whacked due to Title IX and other budgetary cuts. It's damn sad, because it's my favorite sport. Coming out of HS I had interest from Northwest Wyoming (NJCAA national champions over the course of the last few years) and Dickinson State (N.D.).

Wyoming lost 31-3.. lost two matches in the last seconds of the match, lost a couple other in matches they were leading. The Pokes are improving, but not quite up to OSU standards yet. Today duals with Northern Iowa and Utah Valley State.

Good to hear. Dual meet scores can be very misleading. A swing of a total of three points in three matches can really change the whole complexion. UNI is usually pretty strong.

#7 Lehigh stormed back from a 12-3 deficit Friday night to beat #17 Virginia Tech, 24-12. All weights went as predicted, except for #13 Ciasulli at 141 losing to the #14 Hokie. Seth was winning 3-2 with 10 seconds remaining and got sloppy, giving up the late takedown, 4-3. Lehigh is now 12-3-1.

Saturday's awaited dual with improving rival #23 Rutgers was cancelled. Attempts being made to reschedule, possibly Friday, Feb. 19. Next weekend Mountain Hawks travel to New England for back to back duals with Harvard and Brown.

I wouldn't worry too much, OSU's been smoking every body, except Iowa and Iowa State.

That's a pretty good beatdown! Nice work Lehigh!

Cowboys stomped a mudhole in Cal-Fullerton, 28-15. Next week is the Air Force Academy to finish up the dual season.

Lehigh walloped #22 Rutgers today, 28-3 at Stabler arena. Only loss coming at 157. I had picked us favored in four weights, Rutgers in two, with four toss-ups. We lost one of the toss-ups and pulled off two nice upsets at 125 and 149. Lehigh now moves to Penn on Sunday to close out regular season. EIWA Tournament March 6-7 for qualifiers to NCAA.

Kind of surprised how high Boise is considering how North Dakota St beat them.
