Breaking the all-time school record for best start at a baseball power such as Arizona State shouldn't be easy.

It wasn't for half a game Saturday night as ASU's Merrill Kelly and California's Justin Jones were locked in a scoreless duel in front of a second consecutive sellout crowd of 4,371 at Packard Stadium.

Then freshman Deven Marrero unloaded his first career home run off freshman left-hander Jones in a four-run fifth inning. No. 1 ASU went on to a 6-1 win, its school-record 22nd in a row to open the season, surpassing the 1961 Sun Devils.
Interesting, after running Pat Murphy out of town on a rail, with an interim coach, the Sun Devils break a long-standing record...
