4/2
Second win over SFA 3-2
Record goes to 9-2 (17-8)
RPI up to 27
Will retain 1st place in SLC even if SLU wins tonight
*game was moved from 2 PM to noon due to impending weather (rain) and SFA field has no lights, so have to all be day games. Tomorrow's game is at 1 PM.
Side Notes: Our FB fullback is becoming quite the gamer. He has been, more or less, designated the DH...by default and trial and error. Against A&M he hit a double in the 11th inning that ended up being the winning run. Against SFA he has 2 HR's in 2 games. He has also appeared in these past 3 games as a RP, allowing no runs, though 1 was charged to him (runner on 3rd) after he came out.
Last 3 games
BA - .385 (he was batting like .219 and has brought that up to .279)
Slug % - .857
OBP - .867
Pitching - 3 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 3 K's
ERA is 2.25

After a loss to SFA 8-7 and an embarrassment at the hands of Baylor, TXST comes back and wins 14-2 in game 1 vs UCA. Still holding a 1 game lead in the SLC (10-3) (18-10)
Though not ranked, most of our losses have been to ranked teams
UT
Rice
TCU
WKU
A&M (when they were - early)
Baylor (2) (1 when they were ranked)
We did garner "others receiving votes" this past week but I think the team's immediate goal is to win the SLC and the SLC tournament, rankings be damned. Our RPI is hovering between 25 -40, so that's all good.

Take second game against UCA with a 7th inning comeback after, amazingly, being shut-out for 6. Injured Sibley sent in to pinch hit and starts a rally that plates 6 runs. Randell adds a solo shot in the 8th, for good measure.
Coupled with other teams (except SFA) splitting their first 2, of the weekend, TXST stays in 1st place in the SLC @ 11-3 (19-10)
Thus far, this weekend, RF Randell has 3 S, 2 T, 2 HR, 2 W, 1 HBP, 5 RS and 4 RBI.
Looking like POTW material to me
7/7 with SP and OBP over 1.000

2 Triples

TXST still in 1st @ 12-3 (20-10). 2 games up on SLU - who we play next weekend - away

Those are some salty numbers. Hope he leaves them there in San Marcos this weekend. Should be a good series this weekend against SLU

I hope he keeps them up tomorrow night against UT, along with Kubitza and Martinson. Sibley is back also, so that helps.
Love to get to this series but 1) I only have Fri and Sat off and 2) no way I'm driving nearly 1000 miles (roundtrip) in that timeframe.

After blowing a 2 out b8 lead to UT and totally crapping out at SLU (it was their worst set of games this year ....11 errors in 3 games????? - UGH) but retaining the SLC lead, TXST comes back and takes down Baylor 9-3.
Still not ranked but it doesn't matter for SLC play.
Have, apparently, lost our AA second baseman for the season.
(BTW - I am told that 11 errors is all the scorekeeper gave us. There should have been a lot more. Guess the UT debacle got into their heads.)

Won Friday over # 30 NWS 5-3.
Our pitcher actually went the full 9 innings with 10 Ks
Retain 1st place in SLC by 1.5 games over NWS and SFA.

Took game 2 vs # 30 NWS - keeps the Bobcats in 1st place regardless of what anyone does Sunday.
# 20 SLU lost 2 days straight. They fall to 4th place in SLC
15-5 (24-13)

This team could drive me to drink. They take down Baylor 9-3, take games 1 & 2 from NWS (5-3, 7-3), then turn around and lose 8-0 in game 3. The guy that pitched had UT 5-3 after 7.1 innings just 12 days before.
And, as an amusing anecdote. In the 8th inning, (Saturday) our DH hit a foul ball that went straight back, over the netting (behind home plate), hit a speaker and the ball landed in his mom's purse. What are the odds? (I sit a row in front of his parents, so I was there to witness it)
Of course he got hassled by other players, after the game, about trying to take out his mom.

Maroon and Orange Rival Series weekend coming up. TXST & UTSA. We beat them in most sports and their Baseball team is not the best this year but, they can surprise. We need every W we can get with 12 conf games left. Tight race going on in the SLC with a 2 game differential separating the top 5 teams.
UTSA has taken teams they shouldn't and we have had some dramatic fails in games we should have won. With this series, usually, anything can happen.

Same pitcher had a 10- run rule win tonight w/2 hits and 7 K's
Our DH went 3/4 w/ 3 rs, 3 RBI (HR, triple, Single). The triple could have been a inside the park HR but they held him up. Damn shame too.
He leads the team in BA (.380), Slug % (.710), ob% (.447 - tied)
and ERA (1.84)
He didn't start the year as DH, so has only been that for 26 of the 40 games: although he had a few abs scattered in those beginning games.
He is our set-up RP, with 14 appearances
He's also a FB on the football team
26-14 (16-6)

They added (I think?) a game to the schedule. We were rained out in early March @ Rice. Rice decided to make this game up this coming Tuesday - to help their RPI. It will be a 3 PM start - in Houston.

Swept UTSA but our Magic Number is still 8 with 9 conference games to go.
(4 teams eliminated from the race, 2 on the verge and 6 still in contention)

Looks like TXST could make a regional even if they don't win conf or the tourney, barring a total collapse. Our Strong OOC really helped this year.
Ranked in 2 polls this week.
A collapse is not a foreseeable circumstance, to me.

TXST takes 2 of 3 from McNeese. The top 3 teams will be positioned the same as they were before the weekend with 6 games left.
TXST goes back to LA next week (after finals and playing TCU) to take on Nicholls. 2 horrible road trips, back to back.
SFA will be at SLU - interesting

Lost 2/3 to Nicholls. Something that never should have happened. In the meantime, SLU took 2/3 from SFA and we go into the final series tied for 1st. SLU has the tie-breaker.
Tonight, we run ruled UTA (amazing as that was) and NWS took SLU. 1 game up with 2 to go. We really have to sweep to take care of business, win the SLC and get a birth in a regional. It's no one else's fault we are in this position. (this is the player's perspective that I got from one of the dad's)
It is nice that SLU lost but TXST has to do it for themselves or forget moving on.
TXST 22-9 --
SLU 21-10 1
NWS 20-10 1.5
SFA 19-11 2
Still a very tight race. UTA statistically eliminated tonight.

Our Friday starter, Carson Smith, has won his last 4 starts with an ERA of 0.28. 1 ER in 32 innings. 2 of the games have been run rule 7 innings. All 4 are complete games.

Corrections, my bad, re: Carson Smith
It's only 30 innings, with 28 K's (total 89) and the 1 run was unearned, so the ERA is 0 for those 4 games and 3 of them were run ruled. So he has 1 - 9 inning and 3 - 7 inning CGs in the last 4.....6 for the year.
Overall record is 9-3 with 3 saves and an ERA of 2.43
102 BF in 30 innings
