TCU to the Big East

So, now what happens?

TCU joins the Big East for ALL SPORTS, not just football, and leaves the MWC with the best of the WAC and the worst of the MWC, which is pretty much going to be like the WAC was.

Where does the next domino fall? This is all crazy.

Is this serious? WTF? Why would the Big East add a team from Texas to all sports?? How much will this cost schools on travel? :ohno:

I guess TCU is scared of Boise too :coffee:

First to save their ass with the BCS. TCU football will greatly enhance their power rating and enure that the Big East keeps their BCS bowl bid. As to travel, if you have to fly to play an opponent, it doesn't really matter much cost wise if the flight is 500 or 1500 miles.

Exactly. Plus, DFW is a hub for American...which flies to just about every BE city.

At least the USF add left the credibility of the conference name intact - adding TCU makes no sense in that regard.

No more than the MWC having a team from Texas in it does. Or the WAC having a team from Louisiana. Or the Pac-10 having a team from Colorado.

Keep dreaming. If the MWC expands, it will be from this list:

Hawaii
Utah State
SMU
Houston
UTEP

I know. But it's fun to throw it out and get the stay-putters mouths frothing.

That's not really something they care about at all. They're improving their conference competitively and financially... that's all that matters.

How does adding TCU improve the conference as a whole? The only, and I mean ONLY thing that is beneficial to the Big East is adding that TCU football program to that terrible football conference they have right now.

But since it is all sports, The big east is adding a pretty mediocre athletic department from TCU. TCU basketball in the Big east? That is NOT a big east caliber basketball program. What is that, like 17 teams now? Ridiculous.

Not to mention that the volleyball, golf, track teams, etc all have to travel all over the country now. I heard today that it is 1700 miles from Fort Worth to Uconn. Flying a long ways to play a football game, in which you are making money is fine and dandy. But when you have to fly eleventy billion miles for all the non revenue sports, it makes no sense.

DJH, while I agree with that think about this

It's 1,600 miles from Fort Wayne to Boise - yet no one had a problem with that.

That's yet to be seen. Football, yes, but wait until softball has to take another plane trip.

That BCS bowl money will pay for a lot of softball trips.

They were going to be, and when that was announced no one seemed to have an issue with it. However, that extra hundred miles is a real deal breaker for most it seems.

Compare this map, to the map posted earlier where TCU wasn't even in the picture..

Point is, that nearly EVERY trip for EVERY sport for TCU is going to be VERY long now.

Closest MWC school to TCU was UNM, at over 600 miles. Doubt they drove that much in any sport.
