Yes, Gator Nation, it appears that it’s happening again.

According to the Twitter page of Sporting News Radio host Todd Wright, Florida’s Urban Meyer will step down later today from his position of head coach.

AOL FanHouse.com's Brett McMurphy also tweeted the Meyer news, stating that sources tell FanHouse that the Gators head coach indeed will step down and that a press conference will be held later this evening to announce the decision.

More on this story as it develops.

Expect some recruiting violations to surface next year.

He can still come coach at Montana as far as I am concerned

Maybe he'll still be in the market when Jerry retires - I think Meyer knows a little about running the spread.

Couldn't win w/out Harvin if anything

Not that I believe that, he won everywhere he coached. They sucked this year because he only stuck out the year as loyalty to his assistants. Took UF to elite status, they'll never reach that high again, any Gator fan who thinks this is anything other than a crushing blow is delirious

I don't understand why people have to be so negative. Some of you guys would assume pending recruiting violations after JoePa finally retires.

That said, I'll bet a dollar to a doughnut that the first place UF calls is South Carolina.

They sucked because he played a qb not fit for his system. They'll be a top level team if they don't hire an idiot like Zook. There's too much talent her for a good coach to not win with. But I'll enjoy the Noles beating them for a while.

Meyer as an offensive genius is a myth. He's never called plays in his life. Dan Mullen is far more responsible for Florida, Utah, and Bowling Green's offenses and Urban Meyer's reputation for developing solid quarterbacks.

I saw the press conference and thought his reasons seem legit. It would be pretty cool to have the opportunity to retire at 46.

Uh, if Meyer couldn't win without Tebow, then how did he go 10-2/12-0 at Utah and 8-3/9-3 at Bowling Green? Tebow was still in high school at those stops.

This might be the influence of being unemployed for almost four years, but I think that I may never retire. And that's not all money-driven. I just could not stand being cooped up in the house all day, and senior day-care just doesn't appeal to me.
