Rich Rod

Should he stay or should he go? The Wolverines are getting pulverized by a good Mississippi State team by 24, more than halfway through the 3rd. I think he should get another year and the DC should get the boot. The offense he promised has arrived but the defense has been horrible and it was horrible last year too. They are a very young team and I think if the defense can be fixed they could win at least 8 or 9 games next year and even more in years following. Having a change at coach right now would set the program back another 2 years, as I would think a more traditional offense would be installed leading to transfers. Waiting one more year is probably the best option

He should stay without question. Michigan created this problem by making a terrible hire in the first place. They hired a coach that plays a completely different type of football than what Michigan had run throughout its history.

It takes a long time to make that type of transition. If they fire him and hire a new coach, they will have the same problem in 2-3 years. If they make such a radical hire, they need to see it through.

Only problem is that will be their 3rd DC in 3 years at some point it's not the coaches. I think he's gone although I could be wrong.

ESPN said that it would be Robinson's second year at DC, but that confuses me as I thought he was the HC at Syracuse

Rich Rod is part of the problem. However, all it would take is a decent defense and this UM team would be much better.

That's right, I was mistaken he was fired from Syracuse in 08. So a new DC will be the 3rd in 4 years.

I agree a good defense goes a long way, it sure helped FSU's turn around.

really because I could have sworn you were right and that he was fired last year, anyway seeing has he's been there 2 years and in those 2 years Michigan has played its worst defense ever, he should be fired. A decent defense will take them a long way

I wouldn't fire Rich Rod. Make sure he knows that next year is his last chance. Tell him money won't be an issue with finding a new DC. Get a top flight defensive coordinator... Randy Shannon or Dick Bumpas perhaps.

Or beg Ron English to come back.

I still think he's a good coach with a great offensive mind. He should land a job somewhere soon, this thought literally just popped in my head, but what about UConn?

Michigan should be very careful in their hire and shouldn't rush it. If they don't hire the right guy and he can't save UM, I can totally see them become a Notre Dame type school with revolving coaches until someone finally comes along after many years of despair and mediocrity. Could be a long time until Michigan is relevant again.

I agree, he won't be out of work long. he's better at a low pressure type school. I think he needs to go somewhere with some players that will fit his system

He is still technically the HC at Michigan.

Correct. The decision has been pushed back AT LEAST until after a convo tomorrow.

ESPN can't report, they had a headline that said "No longer Michigan's Man" for a while

Officially, Rod. But knowing the way these things work, you're probably right, too.

The local radio folks are saying Harbaugh (sp?) will either stay at Stanford or go to the NFL. He has done tremendous work at both USD and Stanford, but I think he will go to whoever pays him the most. :twocents:
