"I am committed to earning my degree in architectural design from Stanford University and am on track to accomplish this at the completion of the spring quarter of 2012", Luck said in a statement.
I hope it works out for the kid.

Now what happens to Harbaugh?

This is great luck for Stanford.

I'd blame it on Carolina having the first pick, but doesn't the worst team in the league get the first pick every year? What if next year the Bills go 2-14? Then he's really out of "luck". I'd rather go to Charlotte than Buffalo.

He's going to be pissed when he finds out there's going to be a rookie cap in 2012. I wonder how much money he misses out on?

They can still get Cam Newton, Ryan Mallet, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, etc.... don't think any of those guys are as highly rated or "pro rated" as Luck... but those four aren't too bad to pick from. My guess is they go after Mallet or Locker.

Since we're talking about the future, I've edited your post accordingly.

BTW, this really F's the Skins who were hoping to get Mallet (they have to figure Luck and Newton would be gone by #10). :thumb:

Bills have bigger issues than QB, no? Fitzpatrick to Johnson was a pretty good combo for them this year...

He is hoping Arizona goes 1-15 next year

Just thought about this, Panthers fans shouldn't be getting upset about this. Yeah, you're going to suck again next year, but that means you'll have a second shot at getting Luck. Glass half full.

It's tough to be the shittiest team in the NFL two years in a row. It takes a lot of breaks. If the ball bounces differently in a game or two... you could easily drop out of the race.

According to Peter King the NFL hasn't ruled out a rookie cap for this draft, he adds that the rookie cap is even very likely this year and that the #1 pick would probably be looking at 5 years and $15 million total.

Wow. Compare that to 6 years $78 million (50 guaranteed) Bradford got...

A rookie cap has to be done. Its just ridiculous how it is now. Teams don't even want the #1 pick anymore, because it is suck a risk, and a financial burden that only pays off about 50% of the time.

Will the cap just be fore base salary or will it also include a cap on incentives?

Dumb move. Wasn't Leinhart the projected number one pick after his junior year? Instead he stayed in college and his stock dropped. The fact that he turned out to be a bust won't help Luck either.

Getting a degree is great, but he'll never have to work if he gets a big NFL contract next year. I'm sure he has insurance, but I don't think it offsets the risk of injury. :twocents:

He can go back and get his degree when he is doen playing football.

And Jake Locker went from being one of the top 2 or 3 QB's last year... to maybe not even getting drafted.

This may not be as dumb as it appears...this could indicate that a lockout is coming. If so, he gains nothing by coming out early. He could be a Lockear, or he could be a genius. We'll see, I think the lockout is more of a reason than getting his degree (which he could do at any time) or moving to Charlotte.

That is an interesting point. If that is the case it may indeed be a good move, but I still think I would have waited before saying anything on the subject either way. Of course, he can always change his mind so I guess we'll see.

Luck is a great QB, but from what I've seen I would rather have Cam Newton on my team.

Even without Luck and coming Pryor out early, its still going to be a very deep QB class, with these underclassmen that bleacherreport Jan 5th article has going 1st round:
-Gabbert (1st QB picked-San Fran )
-Mallet (going to Skins)
-Newton (going to Minnesota)
-Locker (Seattle)

2nd round:
-Pryor (even though he's said he's returning)
-Ponder
-Devlin
