well considering it is 2 big 10 schools playing against each other, I would say yes.

But that still doesn't make a game at Illinois a BIG 10 game.dbackjon wrote:Grandpa - Illinois grad that was on student committee that raised the money that built the stadium89Hen wrote: I didn't know you were an Illini fan.

It would be like going to a Vandy game and saying you've been to an SEC game.

I know this would get me in trouble with a friend at church, but there's only one UM worth a darn, and it certainly ain't Michigan.

as a Minnesotan... there is ONE U of M - and it is in fact Michigan.SuperHornet wrote:I know this would get me in trouble with a friend at church, but there's only one UM worth a darn, and it certainly ain't Michigan.
Until another U of M takes the all-time football wins title from them... that is how it will be.

No, it's not Michigan. And, FWIW, it's not Minnesota, either.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:as a Minnesotan... there is ONE U of M - and it is in fact Michigan.SuperHornet wrote:I know this would get me in trouble with a friend at church, but there's only one UM worth a darn, and it certainly ain't Michigan.

Illinois isn't a powerhouse, but they are in the top 1/2 of the Big Ten more often than not. They are also 4th all time in championships with 15 behind Michigan, OSU, and Minnesota. It also seems like a great place to see a game.89Hen wrote:But that still doesn't make a game at Illinois a BIG 10 game.dbackjon wrote:

If someone says something about the "U of M" there isn't a single person that would think of Montana, Minnesota, or anything other than Michigan.

A single person? I'm sure there are plenty of people that would even think of Missouri, Maryland or Miami too. But agreed, to anyone who'd not affiliated with any of these schools, U of M is Michigan.clenz wrote:U are a Moron

Big 10 pecking order for football IMO (including spacing):
Ohio State/Michigan
PennSt/Wisconsin
Iowa/MSU
Minnesota/Purdue
Illinois
Indiana/Northwestern
Once Nebraska comes in, they will join PSU/UW as second tier.

Actually, at least since Michael Irvin came through, Miami (FL) has been known as merely "The U." I'm not sure how Miami (OH) refers to themselves, though I'm sure guinzone could inform us since Youngstown is so close to there.89Hen wrote:A single person? Living in B10 country I'd say it goes like this (including Nebraska)
Michigan/OSU
Nebraska
Iowa/Wisconsin/Penn State
The rest.

Maybe. IF you restrict the discussion to football.89Hen wrote:I'm fine with that too.clenz wrote:Living in B10 country I'd say it goes like this (including Nebraska)

If you expand to boys hoops, I think you have a three-headed monster at the top with MI/OSU/IN.

Indiana is about as relevant to the B10 right now in college basketball as Sacramento State is in the Big Sky.SuperHornet wrote:Maybe. IF you restrict the discussion to football.89Hen wrote: I'm fine with that too.

Honestly if we are doing B10 basketball, right now, we going
OSU/Purdue/Wisconsin/Michigan State
Michigan/Illinois
The rest.

Re: Big Ten bound in November
That's really saying something, clenz. Indiana's probably about the opposite of Sac. Our hoops team is admittedly horrible, but our football team was tied for THIRD in conference this past season and things are looking up. I can't remember the last time the Indiana football team did anything of note in the Big Whatever, but their hoops team is usually pretty good in conference, if not nationally anymore.

Re: Big Ten bound in November
I was thinking of getting MSU-Iowa tickets but these UM-Illinois, for endzone seats, were a good deal. STUBHUB is where I ordered them. 2 tix, fedex charges and service fees came to $97.25. About what you would pay for a decent SEC game. Heck, Clemson vs Auburn in Clemson this September 17 are $65 EACH!!! So this was a good deal. Looking forward to visting the home of Grange and Butkus.
