HOUSTON – Embattled scouting service owner Will Lyles told Yahoo! Sports that University of Oregon coach Chip Kelly personally approved a controversial $25,000 fee that sparked an ongoing NCAA investigation and was in constant contact as Lyles provided the Ducks with recruiting assistance that may have violated NCAA rules.

In a wide-ranging, multi-day interview, Lyles said Kelly “scrambled” in late February and asked Lyles to submit retroactive player profiles to justify the $25,000 payment to his company, just days before the transaction was revealed in a March 3 Yahoo! Sports report.

how long before one of two things happens:

the NCAA issues another death penalty...

or...

NCAA tries to crack down HARD on one of the big schools and they start talking about leaving the NCAA?

also - is it me, or has Yahoo become the only place left doing real investigative journalism in to this kind of thing?

ESPN is too afraid of losing their contracts to get too involved until well after the fact it seems.

This. Yahoo is my primary provider for sports editorial pieces. I have been sold on them for years. Their "Death to the BCS" book solidified their standing.

FWIW---John Canzano has been called the biggest Duck hater in the state, but he usually does a great job at researching his articles.
