They're a true lynch-pin to a potential seismic shift. If they go to the Pac-12/14/16, then the Big XII is as good as dead because you know they're taking OkSt with them and Texas Tech will want to follow.

In a related story, I might be joining the Big 12 tomorrow morning.
Seriously though, these reports of schools "maybe" leaving conferences are just nauseating at this point...

Well, at least this "report" came from the horse's mouth instead of some sportswriter looking for page hits.

At a certain point my "Texas as independent" becomes the most likely outcome...
Mizzou/Kansas/K-State go to Big 10
Oklahoma/OSU/TTU go to PAC 12
TAMU already to SEC
That would create a hell of an environment in Texas - wherein 3 conferences would have an anchor and Texas would be independent... having the potential for a "natural" non-conference schedule between the Texas schools (will it happen like that? unlikely - but I think it'd be awesome)
Baylor and Iowa St left in the woods. Baylor likely to C-USA or MWC - or else the WAC.
There will be pressure politically in Iowa to get I-State in to the Big 10, but I don't see the Hawkeyes - or the conference letting that happen.

The B10 already shunned Mizzou, and totally embarrassed them in the process. MU to the B10 is not happening...
The B10 laughs at the very idea of a school like K-state in their conference. And KU, by most reports, is tied at the hip with KSU.
I think the B10 has already established that they are going to be very, very selective when adding a school to their league. They have a certain set of athletic (football), and academic standards that schools have to live up to if they are to be considered.

Rumors are flying that OK and TX may go to the Pac-16. Expected to join them if this pans out are OK State and TX Tech.

I don't like this at all....

it would be very interesting to see what becomes of the conference and their BCS situation...
Do the 5 teams in the rump Big 12 make a deal with the MWC? do they invite the cream of the MWC?
the speculation is endless...

Point taken on B10's snobbishness - and K-State being wholly unqualified - Kansas would be a good fit, but you are right in assessing KU's political situation - they can't go without KSU...
As for Mizzou - I'm not entirely sold that they won't be re-considered - but you have a point.

TTBF: In general, you make some good points. But I think that Kansas' potential success in the Big Ten might be limited to sports not known as football, particulary hoops. In football, they're liable to be manhandled by the Big Ten bigs (MI/MSU, OSU, PSU, NE). They might have success against IN, IL, MN, NW, IA, WI, and Purdue.

Reports are Mizzou, KU, KSU all approached the B10 together and were told NO emphatically by the B10.

I can see the Big East taking Mizzou, I-State and the Kansases, especially if they get raided by the ACC again.

Iowa State...unless the leach themselves to Mizzou or the Kansas schools is fucked....their fan base knows it, but is refusing to acknowledge it.

Oklahoma will apply for membership to the Pac-12 before the end of the month, and Oklahoma State is expected to follow suit, a source close to OU's administration told Orangebloods.com.
A contingent of University of Texas officials met with Oklahoma officials on Sunday afternoon, according to multiple sources, and the meeting didn't get very far.
According to sources, Texas wanted to talk about ways to solidify the Big 12, and OU officials didn't even want to discuss the Big 12. In the eyes of the OU board of regents, the Big 12 is dead, sources said.
"The conversation never even got to the Longhorn Network," one source close to the situation said. "It wasn't about UT's network or OU's network, it was about the OU board's concern for the instability in the Big 12 and how realignment can't happen every year."
According to the OU BOR website, the meeting is Monday.

The Big Ten said no to Kansas, K-State, and Missouri because it has enough farm schools. It needs other markets besides Chicago & Minneapolis. Going into Texas might be a possibility. Maybe something to deliver the NYC market. There is too much pride in being Tier 1 in university research to let in KU & K-State.

Nebraska isn't a farm school? Missouri has the Kansas City and St. Louis markets. Apparently, it isn't all about tv sets.
