Ha no, not an actual fall, more like the fall season of ODU!

Between Justin verlander potentially winning the cy young (and maybe even the al MVP!), Dan Hudson leading the diamondbacks to the playoffs, 4 ex monarchs currently playing in the mls, the odu womens field hockey team being ranked number 2 in the country, the odu mens soccer team being undefeated and ranked #13 in the country and the undefeated odu football team, so far this is absolutely

THE FALL OF OLD DOMINION!

Oh and I forgot to add that odu attendee Lashawn Merritt won a gold medal at the world track and field championships a few days ago in either the 200m or the 400m........not too shabby!

"BATTLE FOR NO. 1: ODU Visits North Carolina Friday
Second-Ranked Lady Monarchs Take On No. 1 UNC Friday, No. 6 Duke Sunday"

Image
Sept. 15, 2011

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The unbeaten and second-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team is set to embark on its toughest road trip of the season this weekend. The Lady Monarchs (6-0) will travel to Tobacco Road to take on the University of North Carolina, the nation's top-ranked team, on Friday before heading eight miles northeast to battle No. 6 Duke on Sunday.

North Carolina will be the second No. 1 team ODU has taken on this season. The Lady Monarchs upended top-ranked Maryland 4-0 at home on September 2. With matchups against a pair of Top 10 foes, Old Dominion will now have faced seven squads ranked tenth or better in its first eight contests.

Odu now has the number 1 field hockey team in the country and they earned in the hard way by beating 2 number 1 teams and 6 top 10 teams!

We might be headed for our 10 national championship in field hockey, an NCAA record.

Don't forget Justin verlander going 8 shutout innings today against the athletics, giving up 3 hits, striking out 5, lowering his era to 2.29, winning his 24th game and all but assuring himself the Cy Young.

He's also doing his best to try and win the AL MVP award this year as well. Not sure how anyone in their right mind could argue he isn't the most valuable player in baseball this year. Without JV, the tigers probably aren't even a playoff team.

You can't say that about any position player in baseball right now.

Hudson goes for his 17th win tonight vs. the Pirates.... :D
A pair of dominant starts has the Arizona Diamondbacks back on track. Giving the ball to Daniel Hudson could help the NL West leaders move another step closer to their first division title in four years.

Hudson looks to become the second Arizona pitcher in as many nights to win his 10th home game as the Diamondbacks continue their series against the light-hitting Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday.

Whats the big deal, why is it a shame to support other college sports that aren't football and basketball? :? Tell me this, is Delaware good at anything other than football?

I just find it funny that because UD is superior than ODU in one sport it gives them a right to bash other ODU sports, including basketball. When was the last time UD accomplished anything in a sport that wasn't football?

Their men's lax team is defending back to back CAA champs. Made the Final 4 in lax in 2007 beating #2 Virginia which is still considered one of the biggest upsets in the sport come tourney time. The fact that they made it to the final 4 with the traditional powers usually dominating the sport was impressive. I know you don't have the sport at ODU so it's magnitude doesn't mean that much to you.

Actually, even though ODU doesn't have the sport of men's lacrosse, I still played it in high school for a pretty good school which made it to multiple state championships in the state of connecticut. Looking at UD's roster from last year I think I might have played against some of those kids that played for the Blue Hens roster and are from connecticut. Where I went to high school the two major sports were soccer and lacrosse then football so I definitely know what its like to go to a school that has a good lacrosse program even if it was only high school, lacrosse was still a big deal in the northeast. Not sure if its the same where you live but in the fall its all about soccer in the youth leagues and its the same thing in the spring with lacrosse. I also remember that Final 4 game from a couple years ago when Delaware lost to Johns Hopkins...I was actually there. Our high school coach along with the athletic director every year would get tickets to the lacrosse final four and I went to the national championship regularly. I was very impressed with that run because at the time I didn't realize how good a lacrosse conference the CAA actually is. You mentioned the fact that the magnitude might not mean much to me and other ODU fans so the main point also applies for other sports at ODU that people don't really have any interest in. If you have followed the ODU Field Hockey program this year they have 8 wins against 8 top-10 opponents. Again that might now mean much to you but that means a lot to ODU fans.

Great article on ODU field hockey from the Daily Press...

Only correction is that ODU still has to play UNC, Duke, and Maryland once more so they still have to face numerous ranked opponents still...

Sort of a rough weekend for ODU athletics...

Football losses to Delaware 27-17.
Women's soccer ties Mason 4-4, defeats Towson 2-1.
Men's soccer losses to Mason 1-0.
Field Hockey defeats Hofstra 5-0, defeats Northeastern 6-2.

Overall went 3-2-1

better to be number 1 in the country at field hockey than suck at just about every single major sport outside of fcs football like Delaware. When's that caa basketball title arriving up in Newark? Probably about the same time you get indoor plumbing and stop sleeping with your sisters.

bah ha ha ha.....so field hockey isn't important but a sport like lacrosse, only played by p.ssy rich white northerners who are too afraid to play a real sport is something to be proud of??

That's f.cking hilarious!!!

Insert the term "Field Hockey" for "playoffs".

Seriously guys, it's great that ODU has a storied past with FH & is highly ranked this year, but you guys need your heads examined if you're talking smack with field hockey.

Do you guys actually goto FH games? Seriously?

If you ever have, you would know it's one of the most irritating, ADD sports there are. There's a whistle blown every 30 seconds or less.

You guys should all be ashamed of yourself for talking about field hockey. I'm throwin the flag :flag:
