The University of Chicago football story as narrated by NYT

Good read. They mentioned the "dark ages" of the Maroons as well as their struggles for the first 25 years after they reinstated football - as the paper said, "sparrow not a phoenix".

Meanwhile, University of New Haven (no connection whatsoever with this) is tied with W&M at 3 apiece. They are only in their third varsity season since reinstating football in 2008 (they had dropped it in 2002 only to come back after several years).
Wonder if 10 or 15 years from now, would the Division I FCS programs who dropped football regret their decisions now (New Haven was in the same boat but quickly reinstated it)?
Or can Pacific (last FBS program who dropped football in 1995) become another U of C in the making with the eventual retirement of their former athletic director who authorized its dropping? (U of C dropped football in 1939 and then reinstated it after 30 years) We'll see.
(Note: UAA prohibits its football champion to play the likes of UWW and Mount Union. NYT doesn't mention this fact.
