Boise State almost bailed out by bogus interference call

But, luckily, the guy missed the field goal.

Good, Thanks to Boise State's toast secondary as well as, I think, not being accustomed to being challenged, we don't have to hear about them any more.

Right at the start of the game the guys calling the game said Gary Patterson said he thought his receivers could get behind Boise State's secondary and boy, was he right.

TCU was lucky that Boise State fumbled the ball away. But I'll take it. Just glad we can put the "Boise State should get a shot at the BCS championship game" stuff to bed.

Great job by TCU's receivers. Them against Boise State's defensive backs was a total mismatch. That, and a few breaks, is where I think TCU won the game.

Agree that the PI call was:

1. Very borderline PI
2. A clearly uncatchable pass
3. Egregious home cooking

I'm glad they shanked the FG. I typically pull for Boise, but not after that ridiculous call.

When I watched it live I didn't think it was PI. The first view I saw on the replay I didn't think it was either. But the second view they had he clearly held him and I changed my mind on it. Ultimately BSU just didn't make the plays to win it. The fumble with roughly 2 minutes left was the key, 3rd string walk on as the rest of the running backs were down. :ohno:

That and their FG kickers long for the year is 32 yards. On 3rd down they lost a yard running the ball to the middle of the field so that they could try a 39 yard FG. They had a time out left, they should have tried to move closer.

Glad to see Boise lose, I would much rather watch Case Keenum & Houston in a BCS bowl game.

Did those of y'all who watched notice that Kellen Moore was not real impressive in the "gut check" situation? I'm talking about getting the ball back at the 40 with about a minute left and down one point. All of a sudden he was like high on his throws. All of a sudden his incredible accuracy was gone.

You must not have watched the game, he did everything he needed to do to win the game except kick the damn feild goal himself. :tothehand:

You mean like Andrew Luck in those same situations? :coffee:

No he didn't. He got that bogus interference call that gave them a first down. And yes, I saw the thing about seeing it again and thinking it was holding. No it wasn't. What happened is Moore badly overthrew the ball and the receiver tried to change direction to go after it then the defensive back ran into him. There was no holding. And the ball wasn't catchable.

What happened is he threw four bad passes in a row but got bailed out by the interference call on the last one.

Below is the play by play for Boise State's last drive. Now please tell me how Moore did this remarkable job where he did everything but kick the field goal. He threw 8 passes and completed two of them. Two passes didn't count because TCU got called for penalties but that was his actual performance. He got bailed out on 4th down after his fourth straight incompletion on four straight really bad throws.

Bsu 1-10 at Bsu40 BOISE STATE drive start at 01:05.
Bsu 1-10 at Bsu40 MOORE, Kellen pass incomplete to MILLER, Matt (Verrett, Jason), PENALTY TC holding (Verrett, Jason) 10 yards to the 50 yardline, 1ST DOWN BSU, NO PLAY.
Bsu 1-10 at Bsu50 MOORE, Kellen pass incomplete to SHOEMAKER. T..
Bsu 2-10 at Bsu50 MOORE, Kellen pass incomplete to MILLER, Matt.
Bsu 3-10 at Bsu50 MOORE, Kellen pass incomplete to POTTER, Chris.
Bsu 4-10 at Bsu50 MOORE, Kellen pass incomplete to MILLER, Matt (McCoy, Greg), PENALTY TC pass interference (McCoy, Greg) 15 yards to the TC35, 1ST DOWN BSU, NO PLAY.
Bsu 1-10 at Tc35 MOORE, Kellen pass complete to SHOEMAKER. T. for 10 yards to the TC25, 1ST DOWN BSU (Fobbs, Johnny).
Bsu 1-10 at Tc25 MOORE, Kellen pass incomplete.
Bsu 2-10 at Tc25 MOORE, Kellen pass complete to MILLER, Matt for 5 yards to the TC20 (McCoy, Greg).
Bsu 3-5 at Tc20 Timeout Boise State, clock 00:21.
Bsu 3-5 at Tc20 MOORE, Kellen rush left for loss of 2 yards to the TC22 (Johnson, David).
Bsu 4-7 at Tc22 Timeout Boise State, clock 00:01.
Bsu 4-7 at Tc22 GOODALE, Dan field goal attempt from 39 MISSED - wide right, spot at TC22, clock 00:00.

hey John, didn't you say that Georgia would have a hard time in the SEC after losing to Boise? isn't it likely that hey'll finish 7-1 and are clearly at least a top 15 team?

SEC is overrated as hell. The East is a total joke. Bama has beat nobody this season.

Yes I said they'd have problems in the SEC. If I'd have gone game by game going in I"d have thought they'd have lost to South Carolina and Florida for sure. Also probably thought they'd lose at least one other SEC game somewhere along the way to finish no better than 5-3 in conference. Probably the biggest single thing that turned out differently is that Florida turned out to be a lot weaker than I thought they'd be. And they didn't drop one in those other games.

But I also said they had a very favorable SEC schedule in that they didn't have to play Alabama, LSU, or Arkansas. As it turns out it's been more favorable overall than I thought it would be. None of the teams they've beaten so far are going to be in either major top 25 when this week's polls come out.

Right now I'd say they are the 5th best team in the 12 team SEC. Maybe forth if one says they're better than South Carolina at this point but no better than that. However, the way things have turned out in terms of the strength of their oppositio,n they've been able to parlay that into a 7-2 record.

At this point I also think they have a shot at the SEC title if they get into the SEC championship game. If LSU gets there I think that's a beatable team because LSU is on of those teams I think is good enough to beat anybody due to its defense and special teams but also can get beaten by any reasonably good team because of their offense. If it's Alabama in that SEC championshnip game they've got no shot.

Whether they finish in the top 15 or not depends on how they do in their remaining games. Things do get tougher after Kentucky because Georgia Tech is probably better than anybody they've beatn then they''ll have the SEC championship game and a bowl game. If they lose two of those three games they may finish outside the top 25 and if they lose all three...which is certainly possible...they certainly will.

Well, one thing's for sure: It's becoming more and more apparently that LSU DID beat somebody when they beat Oregon. I wasn't AS impressed by it as some others were. A lot of people think LSU just blew Oregon out and I think it was a close, competetive game until Oregon's freshman back had those back to back fumbles and LSU got 14 quick points out of that. But Oregon got no big plays against LSU. Or if they did it wasn't many. They had to peck and work for everything they got.

And I think Alabama looked a lot better against LSU than Oregon did. In a different way but better. That was a real "coulda shoulda" for Alabama. Plus Albama not only beat Arkansas but thumped them 38-14 and held them to 226 total yards.

I think that the way the SEC is this year is that Alabama, Arkansas, and LSU are very good but then there's a significant drop off.
