who the hell do you pick that is a 1-loss team to play LSU in the national championship game? Alabama? We could very well see a rematch of that snooze fest from a couple weeks ago....

The fact that Bama won't be in the SEC championship game is going to really work against them.

Fact is that if the teams who are ahead of them can take care of business then none of this will matter. I really think that you will need to see a hell of a lot more upsets for Bama to be in the game.

It either Oregon or Oklahoma win out they will overtake Alabama. Even Oklahoma St might be overtake them.

Actually the more I think about it I think you're right. Right now I think its LSU/Oregon.

I hope so. But the BCS is a joke.

How great would an 8 team playoff look right now?

If that was the case then I would think that and LSU/Bama championship game matchup would be the odds on favorite, that "boring" rematch

you can make an argument for any number of teams with legit chances...Stanford, Oregon, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Boise State, Clemson, Virginia Tech....all those teams have 1 loss right now. Heck how about HOUSTON who is 10-0 right now?!?!?! Can forget about some 2-loss teams as well...Wisconsin, Nebreska, and so on. A bunch of these teams won't even be in the conversation.

True. But they would earn it on the field by beating all the other 1 loss teams, as opposed to be given it by a computer and a bunch of voting know-it-alls.

Besides, how often do the odds on favorites meet in the final series of any playoffs?

I think there is no doubt that Alabama and LSU are the top two teams in the country right now and quite frankly and I dont even think its close.

People think that the LSU/Alabama rematch would be a joke.....what about the LSU/Oregon rematch is less of a joke?

I think either way we're gonna see a rematch. I believe 'Bama and Oregon right now are the two leading candidates to play LSU.

It would be more entertaining, if nothing else. Check the score lines.

I don't think it would be a joke, but the first game was boring and there is no reason to think a rematch would be any different.

LSU and Alabama are great defensive teams, but I'm not sure their offenses are great. I'd rather see Oregon or Oklahoma State play LSU. It would be a great defense against a great offense.

Meh. I'd rather watch the Chipper, even if it ends up Lehigh vs. Norfolk St (which it won't).

Basically a home game for LSU. Alabama lost at home. They don't even belong in the discussion.

Well right now you're looking at a LSU - Alabama rematch that 80-90% of the country doesn't want to see again...

A playoff system, of any kind, would be sooo much better.

I have a hunch Arkansas will knock off LSU this weekend, but that may just be wishful thinking.

I wish I were a BCS killer. The BCS has to go.

As for kicking around names, I'd mention Notre Dame, Boston College, West Virginia and Marshall, but they are already irrelevant.

If Alabama beats Auburn they will be in the BCS title game... Going to be up to Arkansas or Georgia if we are going to see a rematch. I like Les Miles but Id give anything to avoid a rematch. I think Bama and Oklahoma State would be a good game and still could happen. I really wish Boise had taken care of their kicking problem over the summer :-(

LSU and Alabama are great defensive teams, but I'm not sure their offenses are great. I'd rather see Oregon or Oklahoma State play LSU. It would be a great defense against a great offense.
You know, LSU has averaged 37.9 points per game and Alabama has averaged 35.5 points per game. I think there's SOME element of truth to what you say in talkig about LSU because the Tigers manufacture points by playing defense and great special teams to get the short field and score in dfiferent ways. But Alabama has a pretty darned effective offense. They've moved the ball pretty darned well on eveyone except LSU. It's old school. It's physical. But they are hard to stop.

Both teams can obviously score a lot of points. Both teams did score pretty many points in every game except the one in which they played each other.

I think what's unfortunately now is that NONE of the other conferences have great teams. THAT's the problem. You can't blame LSU and Alabama because it looks like by any reasonable standards they are the two best teams and happen to be in the same conference.

I do wish there were playoffs. I do wish teams from other conferences would get their shot. But if you're going to have a system to match the two best teams I really don't think there's too much argument...right now at least...that LSU and Alabama have had the two best performances. That could change this weekend if LSU loses to Arkansas and/or Alabama loses to Auburn. And goodness knows such things can happen. But if they both win I don't see how anybody can make an argument against them as having the two best performances. Even if LSU loses to Georgia after that it'll be the case.

I could make the argument that a 12-1 Oklahoma State deserves a shot over an 11-1 Alabama team. Obviously, Oklahoma St has to get to 12-1 before we can even talk about it, but I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that Alabama is better or more deserving.

I think that the biggest gripe is that LSU basically has to "earn" the right to play Alabama for the BCS title when it should be the other way around.
