This guy has no ties to PSU and no HC experience. A lot of the former players & alums aren't happy:

".....Former Penn State All-American linebacker Brandon Short told ESPN.com senior writer Don Van Natta Jr. that members of the influential Lettermen's Club have a meeting scheduled with Joyner for 1 p.m. ET Friday.

"It's unfortunate that Coach O'Brien ... has not been made aware of the implications of him being in this position," said Short, an investment banker. "I don't envy him at all. He doesn't have support of the vast majority of former Penn State players and the vast majority of the student body and the faculty won't support him. I feel sorry for him."

Short said some members of the group were considering a range of options to express their displeasure, including asking current players to transfer and recruits to de-commit.

Short told USA Today they were mulling a lawsuit in an effort to bar Penn State from using their likenesses or images for marketing purposes.

"It appears as if it is Dave Joyner's intent to disassociate himself with everything related Penn State," Short told ESPN.com. "Then a group of former players will now disassociate ourselves from everything related to Penn State."

Former Penn State running back D.J. Dozier also said he was upset to hear about O'Brien's hiring, but also tempered his comments because of the high praise coming from Brady....."

The interim PSU HC Tom Bradley interviewed (who's been there about 30 yrs), as did their DL coach and Jay Paterno. Obrien would be smart to have a few assistants (either currently on staff or not) who have ties to PSU.

Are people pissed because he isn't a Penn St. guy or because Paterno is gone?

Who gives a shit if the guy is a grad/coached there before or not?

I am sure he will get tons of shit for being the guy doing all of the damage control and if he doesn't pan out in 2 or 3 years the reason will be because he couldn't coach and isn't "one of our guys" and not because of the rest of the stuff he will have to deal with be it NCAA, media, or whatever.

What they should be concerned about is how horrible Patsies' coordinators are as college HCs....

As a former Patriots' coordinator, he's almost guaranteed to have a losing record his first year. At that point, pressure will be brought to bear on the school to reinstate Paterno. They very well might cave....

Yeah, I'm sure they are going to bring back a guy they fired even though he is 85 years old, has lung cancer and can't rip a big fart without breaking a hip or pelvis.

Just how retarded are you?

Amen to that needless to say it will take awhile for this school to recovery from what Sandusky and Paterno did to its national reputation.

And knew about the actions of a pedophile on his staff but refused to go into action simply because he didn't want to interfere with the vacation plans of the school's AD or the school president.Paterno would be lucky if his name was mentioned on campus at all.
