Bama Defense

That may be the best defense in college football history. Unbelievable.
#1 in Total Defense (191 yds per game (not including tonight). Last team to hold a team under 200 yds was Bama in 92' (194 yds per game). Was able to go back 22 years to 89', and no one yielded as few.
#1 in Scoring Defense: 8.2 pts per game (including tonight), fewest in AT LEAST 22 years (Again was only able to look up back to 89', so maybe going back much further). Only gave up 9 TDs in 13 games Go figure, 3 of those were to GSU, the most points they gave up all season
#1 against the rush
#1 against the pass
#1 in pass efficiency defense
#1 in 3rd down defense
What is more amazing is that Bama's defense was able to dominate as much as it has in this day and age of spread offenses. And its not like LSU's offense sucked- they were 12th in scoring offense/73rd in Total.

#1 & #2 defenses on Sat between NDSU & SHSU and tonight with Bama-LSU.
NDSU & Bama put on defensive clinics and gave credence to the adage of offense sells tickets, defense wins championships.

Surprised there wasn't a thread on here about the Bama-LSU game.

And if anyone thinks the Bama isn't the National Champ they are smoking crack. Okie State will get some votes, but it will be a runaway in the voting for Bama. Okie St wouldn't have been able to do squat against that Bama defense- they didn't see a defense remotely close to what Bama has.

LSU is gonna get #1 votes as well. They did beat them already before...

But not nearly as convincingly:
9-6 in OT (& even in that game Bama outgained LSU 295-239 but missed 4 FG) vs
21-0
384 yds to 92.

There wasn't in "Other College Sports" where it's suppose to be.

I'd just like to thank LSU for erasing the 2001 Orange Bowl from my memory
(I'm gonna post this in any other LSU/Bama thread)

IMO, Bama's total domination of LSU makes them the National Champ without question.
I don't think Ok St, Oregon or Stanford would have been able to beat them but I do wonder if they would have been able to generate a little more offense. Bama made LSU look pathetic.

I'm pretty postive any of those teams would have at least scored a couple TDs. Bama really should have won the first meeting.

Not impressed with Bama's defense - the Georgia Southern game showed that - and that it is more that SEC offenses are just pathetic.
Would have loved to see Oklahoma State light them up - they would have.

Yep. Which is why I won a boatload of money last night taking 'Bama and the under.

Very tough defense, and they deserve the NC. Good to see GSU hang up some yards and points on Bama this year!
But I still hate Nick Saban.

Have you ever uttered the phrase "hey you damn kids, get off my lawn" before, because I could sort of see it.

Well, LSU already beat Oregon by 2 TDs and Oregon had 2 losses coming into their bowl. Stanford also had 2 losses coming into their bowl.
The only other team in the arguement was Okie State. In the Fiesta Stanford outplayed Okie State even though Okie State won in OT. Too bad for Stanford their kicker choked.
Okie State's defense SUCKED- was 107th in the nation in Total Defense giving up 457 yds per game. They weren't even remotely close to what LSU's defense was. Bama was 5-7 on FG and had the TD vs LSU- most of those would have been TDs vs Okie State. Bama, with a good offense (31st Total, 20th in scoring (about 35 pts per game) likely would likely have scored in the 40s against OKie State.
In the Fiesta Okie State put up 38 against a dent Stanford defense (28th Total Defense) but Stanford's defense wasn't remotely close to Bama's. Okie State hadn't scored less than 31 all season, but I couldn't see Okie State scoring more than 14-21 against that Bama defense, which was the best of the modern era.
I think it would have been Bama 40 something, Okie State 14-21.

Against Alabama? Probably not. We'll never know. But I was actually hoping we'd get to see that. After LSU beat Alabama in the regular season I was hoping we'd end up seeing Alabama vs. Boise State in the Sugar Bowl. But that possibility went away when Boise State lost to TCU the next week.
