Conference Tourneys are going on right now, with the selection of the NCAAs on Sunday. Today in the WCHA, as we kick off the Final 5 in St Paul, we have Denver taking on Michigan Tech and UND facing St Cloud State. Winners will play defending champion Minnesota Duluth and the top seed Minnesota Golden Gophers. Should be a great weekend of hockey at the Final 5, as always

Union-Colgate and Harvard-Cornell in the ECAC semis on Friday!

Denver defeated Michigan Tech 3-2 in OT and UND defeated St Cloud State 4-1. UND essentially clinched a spot in the NCAA tourney with the victory.

This afternoon sees Denver take on Duluth, and tonight will be UND facing hated rival and regular season champ Minnesota in the semifinals.......

Fifth time this year facing the Gophers...lets kill them!!!!

As UND’s Fighting Sioux hockey team heads back to St. Paul for the NCAA tournament this weekend, two extra “referees” will be watching: the NCAA itself, which has banned the beleaguered nickname and logo from tournament play, and the state of North Dakota, which by law requires that the team be known as the Fighting Sioux.

The team will wear new sweaters, without the name and logo.

“It’s pretty simple,” Athletic Director Brian Faison said. “We have to wear the new uniforms or we forfeit.”

Maybe the pro-nickname crowd can now understand why retiring the name was in the best interest of the athletic department. If a band member is seen with the Sioux logo...Western Michigan advances. Plain and simple.

Actually genius North Dakota used the interlocking ND logo first but Notre Dame registered it first. So actually Notre Dame copied North Dakota and registered it. Thanks for your interest in college hockey. You must be part of the .0001% or else you wouldn't take the time to read and post on this thread.

As I said on AGS, I don't see any of the other three finalists taking out Minnesota this year. Too big, too fast, too explosive. That said, I'm rooting for Union with its strong goaltending and defense.
