CHICAGO – BIG EAST Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco, emphasizing his conference’s national scope, announced that East and West divisions of six teams each in football will begin play in the 2013 season, culminating in a new BIG EAST Championship Game.
“This new alignment gives the Conference and its fans the best of both worlds – national exposure that is a result of the BIG EAST being in six of the top 10 U.S. media markets – with a schedule that focuses on spirited regional rivalries,” said Aresco.
The BIG EAST Football Championship Game will be played between the East and West champions at the home field of one of the participating teams, not at a neutral site, promising an exciting fan experience.

Sucks for Temple
Why wouldn't they put Cincy or Louisville in the West over Temple?

You sort of answered it. Cincy and Louisville are almost in the same neighborhood. They probably didn't want to break them up. Temple has always been a bastard stepchild.

Agreed. Although Temple was already traveling a lot for the MAC. I imagine that they will travel to either Boise or San Diego every year and 1 trip to either Houston or SMU every year. They will have two long trips every year.

Temple might be wishing they had stayed in the MAC. Longest trip was probably Northern Illinois and only a 1 time zone difference.

Poor Temple. Second time they've been fucked by the Big East.

Maybe a better fix is to move the two Florida schools to the west and then move Temple and Memphis to the east. At least they'd each have one travel partner then. Both Florida teams are flying no matter who they play, so what's the difference. Memphis is probably halfway between Louisville and Houston so that's a push.

I find it funny that USF has always looked down on UCF and now they're in the same division

Its clear that the Big East despises Temple. But is so willing to suck off Nova.

That might depend on how they travel. If they travelled by bus for MAC games, they might have a short travel time now since they will most likely fly.

When Navy and the western school(probably AFA) join, I bet they put Navy and AFA in the West and put Temple in the East. Even though Navy is on the east coast they will AFA w/ them and SD is like a 2nd home for them.

Is Philly to SD about a 6 hour flight? Plus the timezone difference. It might or might not be a wash for the individual teams but the Athletic Department has to be sweating it from a cost perspective.

Cost shouldn't be a problem, Temple should get a lot more money from the Big East than it did from the MAC.
There probably will be more travel time involved, but it may not be that much. I'm sure Temple would rather be in the East conference, but I'm sure that they would still have made the move to the Big East even if they knew they would be placed in the West.

Boise in talks to stay in MWC
Boise State could be forced to make a quick choice between the two conferences because the Mountain West and CBS have agreed to restructure their television deal, CBSSports.com reported Friday, citing anonymous sources.
A new deal could mean millions more for Mountain West schools through the 2015-2016 school year and make the Mountain West the dominant non-BCS conference in the country.

According to that article, the Big Ten may be going after North Carolina and Georgia Tech. I REALLY don't like the geography involved with that....

Yeah total bust...and an interesting turn of events. A new decent TV deal for the MWC will keep that conference in -tact and bring back BSU and SDSU.

Big East commissioner Mike Aresco says conference will continue without seven Catholic schools, wants to add a 12th team by 2015
The Big East is expected to have 11 football teams when Navy joins for the 2015 season. Both Boise State and San Diego State were going to join, but instead decided to remain in the Mountain West Conference. A 12th team would open the door to divisional play and what could be a lucrative conference title game.
