No kidding. Read Egriz in the month after a coach leaves Montana.dbackjon wrote:This happens to every school that loses a coach

I think you just don't hear about it.SuperHornet wrote:Yeah. I hadn't heard that. That's gotta be rare, though, in comparison to FBS.

He's not getting paid to sit on his ass in the offseason. He's getting paid to win on and off the field. Every coach in the country who cares about winning. Since you're clueless, I'll fill you in. Oregon's big recruit, a kid named Dontre Wilson, is from Desoto, TX. As it is, he knows one of Ohio State's top recruits, QB JT Barrett from Wichita Falls, TX. Barrett had supposedly been pitching OSU hard to Wilson and Wilson was already thinking about visiting Ohio State. Additionally, with Ohio State losing out on a few of their targets, Meyer has/had to be open to trying to flip guys. The other kids won't come to Ohio State. Wilson is the only one with a legitimate shot, IMO.SuperHornet wrote:No sooner does Chip Kelly exchange the green and yellow of Oregon for the "greener" pastures of the NFL, than Urban Meyer goes after every single 4-star recruit signed to Oregon. And he's not being sneaky about it, either. He sent his OC to San Diego to talk to receiver Darren Carrington.

UNI has had 2 commits de-commit this year and commit elsewhere....uofmman1122 wrote:I think you just don't hear about it.SuperHornet wrote:Yeah. I hadn't heard that. That's gotta be rare, though, in comparison to FBS.
There's no rule against it, so schools have every incentive to do it if given the opportunity.

If a coach is free to leave whenever he chooses, the player should be able to as well. Why should an 18-year old be held to his word, but not a 47-year old? A HC is a major part of the decision for these players. If a coach leaves, it changes part of the basis on which the decision was made--just like any other decision, a change in the facts causes a re-evaluation of the decision.SuperHornet wrote:You make a good point, but there's nothing that says a guy has to wait for National Signing Day to sign. That's just a tailor-made photo-op, nothing more. I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of these kids HAVE already signed with Oregon.
I prefer a kid who will stick to their word on the verbal, remembering that at least half of the commitment is to the school itself, not just to the coach. Oregon is a VERY good school in many majors (not that OSU isn't). My main issue here, though, is that a kid having second thoughts is one thing, but having a coach at another school aggressively go after them is really unethical at best and ought to be illegal.

Because SH likes the view up on his high horse.Pwns wrote:What exactly is the problem here? Some recruits DO pick a school because they like the coach or the offensive and defensive systems. Theres's no telling what kind of system might end up at Oregon next and Meyer does have a system very similar to Chip Kelly's at Oregon. Makes sense to me. No one is going to point a gun at these players and force them to go to Ohio State.

But he hadn't actually verballed yet.uofmman1122 wrote: Doesn't matter, though, cuz we stole NDSU's #1 RB recruit.![]()

I meant in the sense that we lost one running back prospect, and gained a much better one.AZGrizFan wrote:But he hadn't actually verballed yet.uofmman1122 wrote: Doesn't matter, though, cuz we stole NDSU's #1 RB recruit.![]()

Personally, I think that if a coach leaves or gets fired, every player currently ON the team should be allowed the opportunity to transfer without penalty.
