Watching that video...if that was MY kid playing for him, that coach would find himself in a crumpled heap out in the alley.

I've had coaches shove me, hit me and slap me in the head and shoulders, but I was in pads and usually to blame for the resulting action. Cursing and belittling players is just part of college sports. What this guy was doing was just being an a-hole to his players. That ball throwing stuff was horseshit. I'm glad he got fired.

The two incidents make Rutgers look really bad. Rutgers goes after Imus for making dumb comments, but lets their coach of easy after doing far worse. The Rutgers AD has to go.

Lets him off easy? They fired him. What would you have them do....nail him to a cross?

I stopped for a beer after work today and just about died laughing. There was a guy there, not condoning what was done, but saying ESPN is partly to blame because they just created a highlight reel of the worst stuff and playing it back to back to back is causing a bigger scene than it really is. ALSO some of it was taken out of context.

They fired him months later, and only then when public opinion became overwhelming. Their initial punishment was to slap him on the wrist and try to sweep this under the rug.

PENN STATE let their coach off easy for condoning pedophilia. Rutgers fired theirs for hurting players feelings.

C'mon, Bobby Knight makes this guy look like Mother Theresa - if this guy could actually win some games he'd simply have to express insincere remorse and he'd be embraced by the forgiving Scarlet community...

Wrong. Rutgers gave him counseling, a 3 game suspension and a fine (in other words a slap on the wrist) for hurting players feelings, they didn't fire him because of the player incidents, they fired him because it became a national story. They went easy on him, he should have been fired in December.

There is no fu*king reason why he should have been fired. This country is a gigantic bunch of pussies.

I hate this country

If that's the case, that's double jeopardy. You shouldn't be able to punish someone TWICE for the same offense.

As far as the timing goes, you're correct. ADs ALWAYS screw this up. All they really care about is being "seen" as "doing something," and that usually comes at the WORST possible time for the university. Now, they're going to be spending massive amounts of time conducting a nationwide coach search when it COULD have been done at leisure under an interim coach after a DEC firing. And it MAY be compounded by a nationwide search for a new AD that will HAVE to come FIRST. Had this been taken care of as 86 suggests here, a new HC would already be in place, a new staff would have been developed, and that new staff would already be installing the new system. The AD ought to be canned for that alone....

Rutgers Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach Jimmy "Baby Rice" Martelli Resigns

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Rutgers assistant men’s basketball coach Jimmy Martelli has resigned, Rutgers University confirmed on Wednesday.

The resignation comes on the heels of ex-head coach Mike Rice being fired after a video showing the basketball coach verbally and physically abusing his players caused a public outcry.

While Mason has a satellite campus in Manassas (and elsewhere, like Ballston), the main campus is in Fairfax. And UVA already has a NOVA satellite campus in Fairfax.
