Old Dominion ultimately plans to play major-college football in a new, 30,000-seat on-campus stadium – not at Foreman Field – according to a proposal presented Monday to the executive committee of the Board of Visitors.
Board members were told of plans to construct a new stadium on the site of the Powhatan Apartments dormitory complex at 48th Street and Powhatan Avenue, said sources who asked not to be identified. The nearly two-hour presentation was closed to the public.

Just waiting for that earthquake/tsunami?
The whole campus floods when it rains hard.

It is a stark difference to see a community that really embraces something like this though.
Tons of comments from people complaining that 30,000 is too small.
We fought like hell to build 9,000.

There's a lake that forms in front of the upperclass dorms when it rains heavily.

Don't know much about Albany, but I would assume it's like most of New England where football is the sidebar to a wine and cheese tailgate. ODU is in a football hotbed.

2013:
ODU envisions new, 30,000-seat football stadium
https://pilotonline.com/sports/college/ ... cb43b.html
Today:
"
ODU will emulate FAU's football stadium when it renovates Foreman Field
...ODU plans to spend $55 million to tear down the east and west sides of Foreman Field following the 2018 season and replace them in time for the 2019 home opener against Norfolk State.....
Among the changes:
..
The stadium likely will seat about 20,000, close to the current capacity at Foreman Field, rather than the 23,000 proposed in June 2016, DuBois said...
...The stadium will have aluminum stands rather than prefabricated concrete. FAU officials say aluminum reduced costs and construction time...

Wait, so you move up to build a cheap, 20k aluminum stadium, same size as current, one of the smallest in all of I-A.

That's Phase I. The issue is that the current stadium can't be expanded. So they have to rebuild it in order to get to a point where it is expandable.
The other issue is the weight of the concrete. At elevation below 10, concrete structures need many deep pilings for support.

So....you move up to build an FCS stadium.
That's a CCU move if I've ever seen one.

I'm just stunned that they wouldn't have a phase I of 25-30k, with a possible future phase being at least 35k..

Could it also be this (2016):
"
Conference USA TV revenue to plummet to $2.8 million per year
The value of Conference USA’s television contracts has eroded even more than earlier reports indicated.
The league will receive about $2.8 million in TV revenue in 2016-2017 from four broadcast networks...
....That’s about $200,000 for each school, according to notes Old Dominion officials received during C-USA’s spring meetings last month.
It represents a steep decline from the $15.4 million, or about $1.1 million per school, to be distributed this year....
.....C-USA was forced to negotiate new contracts at a time when sports cable outfits are losing subscribers and laying off employees.
The league’s TV revenue has now fallen to among the lowest in the Football Bowl Subdivision, which continues to see a canyon-like widening in the financial gap between the haves and have-nots......"

It's a dollar and a timing thing. Because it is on the same site, they have to do it in about 7-8 months.
We just expanded our football practice locker rooms/offices/weight room, built a basketball practice facility, and made upgrades to the baseball stadium including an indoor facility. Trying to space the money out.

That has an effect on the annual budget, but not capital projects.

You would think the househusband alum with Asian executive wives would get off of TD AmeriTrade for a second and send some money to dear old ODU. Same thing with the ambitious young alum raking in dough up around DC.
Really disappointing to see a school have such hopes for football and then ten years later all the razzle-dazzle is gone.
What you should have done is stayed FCS and built a giant half of a stadium on one side that you can’t fill very often. Then bring in a fiery coach for a cup of coffee before he jumps at the first $1M offer from FBS.
- Spoiler: show
- Kalm, that’s my triple spoon. Usually works pretty well in Virginia water.

Considering its already been 2 years, that's going to be at least a 3-4 year cup of coffee..
Houston isn't leaving for the 1st 1 FBS 1 million offer..Heck, he may have already turned one down..
Not when he's going to be making with the new contract 600-700k total comp at JMU..
When he leaves, its not going to be for his 1st FBS offer, and will be for at least 1.5 mil, at a top G5 or a P5..just watch..
