She is a huge college football enthusiast, and is very well versed on the sport. She'll make a good member of the selection committee.

Agreed - she probably knows more about who is worthy than most of the rest on the committee - good choice

It's the first step to replacing Roger Goddell.

Ok, I'll say it. Condy has about as much place on this committee as me. How is Condy different than me or any other FBS football enthusiast? I watch a ton of it, I consider myself fairly well-versed in it, and am removed enough from any member FBS institutions that there would be no allegations of bias (I'm assuming).
So how does Condy end up on the committee beyond the fact that she's a black woman who happens to famous for liking college football? Why don't we just put Ashley Judd on the NCAA Men's tournament selection committee then? How is Condy any more capable than her? Sorry, but I don't like it and don't get it. I personally feel that a more stats-oriented guy like Brad Edwards or SB Nation's Bill Connelly would have been a better choice. The former players and coaches can provide the X's and O's analysis and conference knowledge, those number guys can provide the numbers to offer a contrasting opinion, they all debate it and make their picks. It just makes no sense to me.

Well I would consider myself unattached to any one university in a way that Condy cannot claim. So yes, I would. She's from Alabama and went to Stanford so any time any team connected to those 2 regions get a
perceived preferential seed someone will accuse her of bias or whatnot. Whereas with me, there would be far less since I went to a small college and grew up mostly in state not famous for its college football. That's the context I'm speaking of. Just because I think Michigan has been a hugely overrated pile of crap since 97 doesn't mean I'm biased.
I'm sure you'll have some snappy retort of some kind, but unfortunately your opinion of who should be on the committee as it relates to mine is immaterial.

Unless, of course, published rules state that she must recuse herself on any vote involving Stanford, 'Bama, and Auburn....

she would for Stanford. Not sure on the others - if she has never had a formal affiliation with them.

Get your self appointed SOS, then we'll talk. What is so wrong in having a non-football player/coach on the committee for a different perspective. And Condi is far more than a fan. The rest are former players and coaches. Diversity of experience is GOOD.

I think the Committee looks pretty good and agree that Condi appears to be an excellent choice. Diversity of experience and perspective is good. I don't think you have to be a former player or administrator to bring value to the discussion. Lots of ADs and other athletic administrators who understand the game. If you're going to question Condi why not question people who were simply former players (Archie Manning) or people who haven't been involved in the sport in a long time (Lieutenant General Mike Gould - I believe 28 years since he was directly involved in football). Playing the game does not make you someone who can automatically analyze the pro's and con's of various contenders and voice your opinion. Gould and Condi's roles have not been that different recently. They are probably both excellent choices but there are arguments against their inclusion and I don't see anyone picking them apart the way they are Condi.
