While I'm not generally a fan of the pistol (and the start of THIS play is an example of why (the back hits the hole standing straight up), late in this play, the back flips over a DB and keeps on running. Not sure how legal the play is (hurdling is technically against the rules, but it never gets called), but it is WAY cool to watch....

Why is hurdling against the rules???

I don't know. It just is. But it's never called. Heck, I just saw a helping the runner call a couple of weeks ago for the first time EVER. That never gets called, either....

Are you talking about some one else from the offense catching and/or keeping the RB from going down? That sahit gets called all the time on the goal line.

It's more along the lines of a back getting stuffed, and other offensive guys start pushing him from behind. Though I'm sure what you're seeing would be included, too....

hurdling is only illegal in freaking high school due thanks to the complete incompetent National Federation of High Schools - seriously a terribly run thing that cares about nothing except $...not the NCAA, not the NAIA, not the NCCAA, not the NFL, not the JUCO level (who follows the NCAA rule book), not the CFL, not the XFL, not the NFLE, not the IFL, not the AFL, not any of the other minor league football leagues....none of them.

The rule book goes on to explain the illegal situations for the defense to hurdle...but when done by the offense it is never illegal to hurdle an opponent

The word hurdle never appears in the NFL rule book...or the NAIA rule book...

Hell the letters h, u, r, and d never appear in that order in the entire rule book

That is an issue with the rb not the formation.

You're right in that it's not the fault of the formation, clenz. It's just that wherever I've seen it, the coaches are letting the backs get away with doing it. Somehow, they're getting big holes NOW, but when defenses catch up to it (as the did with every innovation from the Single Wing to the Run & Shoot), cue Michael Irvin and his cronies, because some poor, lazy back is going to get "Jacked up!"
